My stall fees at Paddy's market have just gone up again to $2600 per month
Included in this amount is $800 for advertising which is great if they use it well and get us some people shopping there.
But their latest is to give all stall holders a bunch of Muslim Calendars to be given to our customers when they buy something.
Dumb idea either way because those shoppers that get them are already in Paddy's we need to attract new custom.
But what is wrong with a normal Australian calendar with pic's of our animals or the Opera House.
My preference is to save the $800 a month because whatever they are doing with our money is not working. X-(

Most retail outlets flog stuff made by poor people in Indonesia, India & Asian countries.
2008 was the year of the GFC wasn't it? Who had $250 000 to splash around that year? Or maybe they got that price just before the GFC hit.

I don't get the free calendar thing Margo...but hey..it's done. Make it work harder for you.
Attach or stamp the free calendar with your own thing ...on presentation of this calendar for the month of july receive 20%off, or free tote bag or gift wrapping or whatever you can offfer.

I have regulars from every race Muslims, Chinese, Japanese, many French and Australians I love a regular wherever they come from
.
"Muslims" is not a race. Islam is a religion followed by members of many and diverse races.

I commiserate with you, Margo. But isn't this rent charge just business as usual?. Charge what the market will bear?
I hate this penny-pinching-make-a-dollar-at-any-cost-as-long-as-it's-to-somone-else attitude, but what you gonna do? Everyone does it, it seems.

I reckon Australia has gone nuts, it now costs more for a smelly 2nd hand t-shirt at good sammies than a new one at big-w.

You have to wonder how much of that is Public Liability Insurance, as well as the PL, they expect you to hold as a stall owner individually?....blimey...we've been talking about the ways in which bureaucracy, red tape, and parasitic money grubbing is KILLING small business in rural OZ, on another site lately...it's not any one thing, but a mixture or culmination of factors...Greed would be the common thread....
e.g. Ever wondered what happened to our once prolific live music culture?........Years ago, some idiot imposed Entertainment Licenses on all venues including restaurants and that was the end of music = the end of the pub/club music scene, = the end of a HUGE amount of business. I remember a time when Sydney the city, was full of people at night, going out to various venues.....but the same could be said for every suburb too.....we rocked...but not now....
Public Liability Insurance, has been another scourge on business and commerce, totally shackling and diminishing a once healthy Festival, Concert and Market industry Australia wide....= it's too expensive to hold a market or festival these days, just on the insurance cost alone.
Lets take, whatever bs was imposed on Paddy's market to make it so expensive these days = same thing...just like a tick....the controlling and greedy just keep syphoning more and more until they literally PARALYZE the host of their parasitic money transfusion.
Just ask yourself, how many festivals & markets do we have now, compared to 30-40 years ago?....Concerts are so expensive and so strictly controlled......why bother?....whenever they commodify something, it dies = just take a look at the Aussie music industry....is the Voice and those kinds of shows seriously the only way to get noticed these days?...huh?
I think that capitalism is going to eat itself within the next few decades as more and more of us are priced out of making a living, or even accessing essential services like heat, light food, health care etc etc etc. JMO
