I just don't believe this is all Australia going nuts or just the minority.

My stall fees at Paddy's market have just gone up again to $2600 per month

Included in this amount is $800 for advertising which is great if they use it well and get us some people shopping there.

But their latest is to give all stall holders a bunch of Muslim Calendars to be given to our customers when they buy something.

Dumb idea either way because those shoppers that get them are already in Paddy's we need to attract new custom.

But what is wrong with a normal Australian calendar with pic's of our animals or the Opera House.

My preference is to save the $800 a month because whatever they are doing with our money is not working. X-(

That's expensive for advertising, margo, and you're right that theyd be better off trying to attract new customers, but repeat business brings in the most profit and is the cheapest to gain.

Who shops at paddy's? I haven't been there for years, but it used to be young people, artistic people and people after a bargain. Could the Muslim demographic be a neglected but profitable sector? Do lots of Muslims shop there already and they're rewarding them with freebies to encourage them to return? Is your complaint about the advertising per se, or about the medium, ie the calendar? Or is it a complaint that you dont want to encourage Muslims to paddy's? Lol

Margo, here is an idea.

Set up just outside Paddy's and save the stall rental.

the $2,600 you could use to pay fines for street vending and still have some left over.

Also you would get all people arriving at the market and all leaving.

🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

OK I will answer Karens because that should answer the rest.

Karen when you went there years ago the stalls were given out from a waiting list so there was a good cross section of traders some went broke and left others made good money.

I have been there for 40 years so got my stalls from a waiting list, at that time there was no advertising as everyone knew paddy's and the rents were about $10 a day.

Then someone in the Government had the bright idea that rather than give out stalls off the waiting list, the current stall holders could buy and sell them.

( This is not a racist remark but a fact.) the only people who could afford the stalls were of Asian origin so they are now all but 1% run and owned by Asians who group together to import from China making all the stalls look like they are selling the same good.

Locals rarely come there anymore though we do get country people and interstate people who don't know this till they visit.

Where in 2008 the selling price of the stalls was $250,000 a double today there are 800 stalls for sale and you can't give them away.

My complaint is about the advertising per se, the money they waste for no benefit, they could give out free parking, bring busloads of people from the country areas, use a personality to have spot sales any number of things not hand out silly calendars.

I have regulars from every race Muslims, Chinese, Japanese, many French and Australians I love a regular wherever they come from .

My beef is with management and the fact they let the product mix get to where there is none.
