I just don't believe this is all Australia going nuts or just the minority.

My stall fees at Paddy's market have just gone up again to $2600 per month

Included in this amount is $800 for advertising which is great if they use it well and get us some people shopping there.

But their latest is to give all stall holders a bunch of Muslim Calendars to be given to our customers when they buy something.

Dumb idea either way because those shoppers that get them are already in Paddy's we need to attract new custom.

But what is wrong with a normal Australian calendar with pic's of our animals or the Opera House.

My preference is to save the $800 a month because whatever they are doing with our money is not working. X-(

Strata titles are for business premises too. I am currently in one for my B&M shop. It works exactly the same as it does for residential units. (more or less).

I think "Sydney Markets Limited" is just the organization that gets paid to run the markets. It is not a body corporate. I don't understand if you own a piece of property Margo, or what exactly you own. If it's not a piece of property then 250K seems like a lot to pay.

Ok, after having a look at the Sydney Markets Limited website and financial reports it seems they are a listed Company that own Paddys markets and they are run by a Board of Directors etc. (same as any big company). And they certainly are a very big company.

So stallholders at the markets simply own a lease, they don't own any property. So Margo does that sound right? That what you bought originally was the "lease" to your stall? You must have some paperwork somewhere that says what you own? Anyway, that means you are only a tenant, so you don't get a say in how things are run etc. It is completely different to owning a unit in a strata title. Sorry to bring that up to add to the confusion.

That's right beach all that money gets you is the right to occupy the stall and you still have to pay rent.

Most of the older people like myself were counting on selling the rights to occupy and having that money for our super which is the only reason I am still hanging in there, I have managed to survive the recessions so I will manage to survive the downturn now it can't last forever.

But it is very frustrating to see how little the management cares about its tenants.

No eloi totally different crowd but they are great markets, that is the type of market I used to do loved them but I am too old now to be loading and unloading trucks and standing in line at midnight to get a decent stall at 6am the next day, but for young innovated people I think those ones are the way to go.

Margo it sounds like they have grown way too big for it to be a friendly institution any more. It is a big business now worth millions.

Margot I am seeing this kind of "greed" all over the place.  We go to DFO at Moorabbin Airport in Victoria.  I go to a jeweller there named VAL.  he is a lovely guy and always fixes my necklaces etc for a good price.  I dropped by last week only to see an "End of Lease" sign on his window.  Asked him what was happening while he put a parrot clip on my gold chain.  He tells me the owners have almost doubled his rent and he would need to basically double his prices in order to stay there and as he said to me "This parrot clip is $25 today with the new rent increase for the same clip I would need to charge you $50 - would you be able/willing to pay $50 for a small clip?"  I replied that to be honest I couldn't afford $50 and my necklace would just have stayed broken.  He said "Exactly, most people wouldn't be able to pay double the price so within 6 months at the most I'd be out of business"

He has heard that quite a few of the other shops there are closing down as they can't afford the rent increase.

The stripe shopping centre where we live is the same, one bloke owns the entire block of shops and he's increased the rent so much that people are moving out. Over half our shops are vacant now and it looks really sad.
