3 Asylum Seekers in detention escaped yesterday.
So far police have been unable to find them.
Anyone know anything about this?
Any links etc?

Is this the 50,000+ "REAL illegals" people here keep referring to? http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/86overstayers-and-other-unlawful-non-citizens.htm
because i cant find any other reference.

That figure is fairly well accepted and very widely reported. You don't have to look far. Not sure why you think there are no other reefernces. You must have limited your search in some way.
Here is one from a few years ago - was at the top of the google search list. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/illegal-immigrants-arrive-by-plane/story-e6frea6u-1226200568050. another: http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/4279292.html
The immigration depart had the official figure of people they lost track of (ie. they arrived but never left) at 53 900 as at 30 June 2010.
We hover between 50-60,000 illegals yearly of known illegals. But it could be as close to 100,000 that we don't know about.

You also need to remember that we are talking about 4.5million temporary visas, out of those a very small percentage overstay them, and as I said, MAJORITY simply extend them.

That 50,000 is a roving figure. The actual number of overstays is much higher but as you say many are overstays that eventually leave or get caught.
And I agree it is a small percentage. As is the percentage for boat people. I think that is the point.

I agree with you there, which is why I don't understand why some people say we should focus more on one and not the other. They are equally important issues which should be seen in context and which require different strategies.
Thanks for the links. I haven't read that report before, 103 pages but looks like its worth reading, even if slightly outdated (as is the one I was referring to)

Northam escapee still on the run after two weeks
A Vietnamese detainee who escaped a WA immigration detention centre two weeks ago has still not been found.
The man was one of two detainees to escape from Northam's Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre, 100 kilometres east of Perth, on the night of December 27.
Efforts were continuing to find the escapee and detention services provider Serco will investigate the circumstances of the escape, a spokesman for Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said.
Senior Sergeant Mal Ward said Northam police will no longer be actively involved in the manhunt.

No, the news said yesterday and mentioned an overnight search and they definitely said 3...

I reckon they'd get a job, like the 50,000 + other paperless immigrants. Or, they can ask family. Or, they could ask me...I'd happily give them some food.

It is not about focusing on one group more, it is about NOT focusing on the relatively small number of people who arrive in boats. Over the past 6 years of ALP government every boat was a headline while the 50 000 to 100 000, or whatever, of those people who arrived by plane and stayed do not seem to attract that sort of negative publicity. The reason many of these people do not extend their visa is that they know they will not be able to do so. for one reason or another.

I would really like to hear from the Christians what they think about our treatment of refugees. I am an athiest but I am interested in what our Christian brothers and sisters think and what do they think Jesus/God would have to say about it all.

The treatment of these people in this way is not Christian. Some pay only lip service to a faith, they fail to embrace the fundamentals of said faith . This discredits them as pro-active Christians, and renders them at the same level as the politicians who fake it for electoral gain.
