...for entertainment!
Last night's finale of Ja'mie was disappointing, and the language and the some of the scenes were gross.
I left the TV after that but was sitting nearby at the computer when "Shock Horror Aunty" came on. Some of the language in that was so disgusting I made OH change the channel.
Is that what's being served up as entertainment these days?
I always thought the ABC was more conservative.

My dollars pay foxtel, don't hear me complaining about their shows or political shows. I realise there are good shows and there are bad ones and usually the good ones stay around.
My dollar pays for education, I have no kids and do not plan on any. You do not hear me complaining about schools.
End of the day your tax dollars that goto the ABC would be 0.000000175 cents a year. You are hardly a share holder.
So, my point went right over your head, didn't it. We all pay for the ABC, therefore have a right to voice are approval or disapproval of what is aired. The ABC was always there for those who couldn't get commercial stations, that's why it was tax payer funded. You choose to pay for foxtel,do you get the difference? Having kids or not having kids is totally irrelevent (really at a loss as to why you mentioned it)
Anyway, over the stampede of RTR rampage of the past few days. Sorry for trying to interact, have a nice life, be nice to others.
I was under the impression you were implying that because you pay tax you can have control and that is why I used the school example because clearly with any tax payer funded thing, you cannot control it or argue you should be able to because you pay a quarter of one cent a year.....for logical reasons.
At the end of the day that show was overrated and kicking a dead horse,
Agony Aunts would be a better choice.

And ALL is the operative word - it is not your ABC or my ABC it is our ABC, and while you or I might not approve of a particular programme, there are probably just as many other people who look forward to it eagerly every week, but wouldn't be caught dead watching some of the things you or I enjoy.

Pretty sure that's what I said. People are allowed to say they don't like something aired, or that that like what was aired. And neither should be paid out for doing so.

And I'm sure you would also agree that there is a world of difference between saying 'I find this show really offensive,' and saying 'This show should not be on the ABC.'

wow people......I have an 'OFF' button on my tv.
I rarely touch the 'on' button these days.
1. got better things to do than 'watch the box'
2. rubbish programmes
3. all the channels (and there are a lot of them now) seem to be synchronised for ads....i.e. you don't have much luck 'flicking' thru the channels looking for another decent programme to watch inbetween the ad breaks-if one channel is on an ad break then chances are that they are ALL on an ad break.....
So, if per chance I want to watch tv I will only watch the channels with the least amount of ads, being the SBS's and the ABC's...and if these get too involved showing ads of their upcoming programmes, I lean over and turn the wretched lot 'OFF!'.....got better things to do with my time.
I loathe Q & A....its so staged and 'boring'!!!
I love QI with Stephen Fry
There are some better quality quizz shows on lately....from the few quick flick thrus that I have done but still too many ad breaks that lose me altogether 🙂
I would not watch that Jaime rubbish show if you paid me $500.....I would watch each and every episode for $1000 or more - with ear plugs in

It is important to have a news media which is not subject to private finance;
An independent news service which is not subject to the whims and censorship of its paymasters.
Sure there are rubbish programmes on the ABC, just as there are rubbish progs on commercial tv. it's just that the prepondeance of rubbish seems to settle on commercial tv stations.
canned laughter, telling you when you should laugh, as if the people were sheep (and let's face it, many of them are).
Sit coms . . . useless and mind-numbing soap operas . . a vicarious life lived out in your living room without your having to lift a finger to dip it into the real world.
Political points of view which are bought and paid for by commercial interests.
"That's right folks, don't touch that dial". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRnNDkHb0MU
Without an independent news service, we become subject to the commercial interest disinformation service . . . all "for a few dollars more".

I always thought the ABC was more conservative.
The ABC lost the BBC contract and now they are forced to make thier own shows and the lack of talent is truly showing.... I am now looking into my pay TV subscription to see if I can upgrade as I can get heaps of BBC shows on the next subscription up I believe...
The ABC made a HUGE mistake when it lost that bid..... ever since I have thought that the ABC needs to nbe sold off... it no longer gives us value for money.
