I haven't a clue what's good.
I spend a whole hour trying mattresses out today. Tried about 20 and can't really feel much difference.
Costs range from a few hundred to a few thousand. Assuming money isn't an issue.
So what should I look for in buying a new mattress?

A person who bought a new bed recently told me that it took about a month before they felt comfortable in it... they thought they had brought the wrong thing, then they got used to it and it was good.

my sis and mother use Wenatex *the sleep system, says theyre the best investments they made when it comes to buying a bed.
if you want just the mattress, they might sell it in part.
I think that is what my sister bought - the mattress only for around $3000. It has a zip off mattress cover which is easy to wash and good for people with allergies.
They sell them by group seminar things, rather than in a shop?

I don't still have one, and no-one else I have known since then has still got one either.
Does that mean you are a vangard in the art of nocturnal relaxation?

Simply a differing opinion to yours. You have no idea how many people in the 1980's that had waterbeds still have them now.

yea mum mentioned something about the detachable cover, hers is a single bed, complete.. with all extras.. cost her $4000. including their pillows which arent cheap to buy.. separately.
sis put my mother onto them, not sure who the distributors are.
i still use my trusty old hip and back bed, i think if one is concerned about their health, its more effective to maintain ones fitness during the day, postural awareness etc. a good comfortable supportive bed is secondary.
if i needed to replace mine, i would look into a Wenatex though, very comfortable

They all felt pretty much the same to me in the shop too bob. From my own experience
though I think the base is as important as the mattress, if the mattress is firm and the base
isn't then the mattress will sag, at least that's what happened to me.
Also it depends if you have any back or joint issues
Trouble is doing a mattress search on the internet brings up so many conflicting
opinions like foam vs spring it makes your head spin.
Sorry I'm not much help - still looking. .
