Then you can handsew the hem more easily, with a running stitch..??
Sounds like a good idea youcan, one of my big problems is getting the garment to the correct length (for the person) and then cutting it straight, then figuring out how long to have the hem, do I keep some incase of a growth spurt etc. See it's like an ordeal for me...lol

Yep that seems like the obvious, easy solution. But 1; I'm a tighta$$ lol and dont want to pay an extra 15 or 20 bucks on top of the 50 or 60 I have just spent on the item, and 2; I like to better my skills at things ya know?

I can do hems, buttons and darn socks, and straight sewing on a machine for curtains, but I couldn't make a garment.

Know what you mean!
What I do is measure the length and then use the fusing in small lengths (and a warm iron) to make sure that the length is right- then I reopen the hem and then put the fusing in longer lengths all round the hem..iron it in, then hand stitch with a running stitch..
I wouldnt be cutting before hemming- but maybe you dont mean that...
Another option I guess, is to have something professionally hemmed- and then measure off that garment!! lol
