How do I find out...OR... who should i ask in regards to seeking some info about the history of a pub in Melbourne?
(I am in NSW)
I want to know the name of the pub who was first allowed to legally trade after 12MN. I dont have any dates/or the year and i dont know the trading name of the pub.
...and I dont even know where to start looking.
Cheers ... and... thanx folks 🙂

Not sure if the link will work, but this is a newspaper article where publicans are trying to get liquor licenses for up to 1am but it doesnt sound like they've been successful yet. Its from 1954, thats the limit that Trove goes to with old papers, but it gives a starting point.

I couldn't help but have a google myself. Sorry, no answer, but I found this great blog about Melbourne pubs. Maybe if you contact them they might be able to help you.

Thanx heaps folks....
I bought an old old old artical from a garage sale. Young grandkids selling off grandads old stuff.
He said its history was that it hang on the wall of a pub in Melbourne which was granted the First 12 midnight trading licence. Thats all he knew, so im trying to prove or disprove it somehow.
When i learn how to post pics, I will post one here. Its a wonderful old leather covered crest with cross swords. The leather is perishing, and I just LOVE IT! 🙂
cya and thank you 🙂

I'm wondering if the 1st pub to get a late trading license was Young & Jacksons? Home of the famous Chloe painting.
& as Punch has already mentioned, it was a 6 o'clock close for most Melbourne pubs up until about the sixties I think
