maybe none of our farmers "want" to do it.
*shrugs*
Maybe none of "our farmers" think the effort expended is worthwhile for the outcomes returned.
Just a thought....
People choose at what level they are prepared to enter a market.
So....do you know lots of farmers?...some of us in Rural oz certainly do...they'd do anything to be General Motors Holden....lol Lots of money in Cars....absolutely none in Aussie food though apparently...anyway. Not having a go crikey...just replying.
Can't avoid the obvious

And it is all fine to say the Government should create new industries and/or opportunities, but just maybe, no one wants to work in them.
Look at the big picture - our world is evolving - people are leaving the hard lifestyle that life on the land offers and heading to the city for the more dependable jobs - jobs that a freak hailstorm or drought don't wipe out overnight after months and years of cultivation that sees all of their hard work simply wasted.
Life on the land (especially in the outback) is too hard and there are more and better opportunities emerging. Maybe not in time for this generation, but would you steer your child into one of the hardest industries to master when you knew there were options out there that have a better chance of securing them a dependable future?
Australia grew up on the sheep's back, but Australians simply don't want to ride the sheep any more. (generally speaking)
Sorry, again I ask, do you live in rural oz? do you know for sure that nobody wants to work in 'food bowl industries'? Careful...lol...I do. But as you propose........why the hell would we want to work for Australia?....No problems let's sell the lot then.....(Sorry to the rest of ya...I'll get around to your comments too....see if I don't) as long as I don't go kapoof !!!
on 11-05-2013 06:18 PM
They didnt , the problem is the level playing fiend is tipped away from us because others get support and our industry doesn't.
Not sure if your argueing the facts or the poster?
Right you two....back to ya corners and wait for the bell....lol This here is my thread until I'm canned and then you can run riot.....:^O

Define 'Australian spirit'?
Is it 'buying a chinese made Australian flag' for your car?
Giving a crap About the actual land and what is being done with it /selling it off/mining it?
Caring about Australian citizens?
Caring about Australian politics?
Caring About Australian jobs?
Australia used to be that country New Zealand is now politically. New Zealand is ruled by a conservative party, But when it comes human rights or just plain doing the honest and right thing, ignoring political opinions or gains, New Zealanders seem to be doing the right thing.
We have turned a little bit too much American when it comes to being easy going (like we used to be), almost ignorant of others as long as we are comfy for the time being.
Can't find anything to disagree with there......I like your braincells topsy......Australians need to be inspired...let's not hold our breath though shall we?....Not good for the health

Bl*****************dy oath Topsy.......Next house I build will be self sufficient (hate bills when it rains and the sun comes out regularly)....but I'm going to to be unfashionably installing a BL***************DY BIG OPEN FIRE PLACE.......brrrrrrrrhhhhhhh!!!!

The fact is people can't afford to live off casual and seasonal work.
Farmers can't afford to pay for permanent staff and bring in 456 visa people and backpackers for the seasonal work. There are people who want to work in farming but they need to survive and raise their families which limits their choices.
