That was a real eye opener.
the sermon was about giving to the church using some verse from the bible that i can't remember.
well anyway in a nut shell you are meant to give 10% regardless of how much you earn
so someone on minimum wage who happens to beleive has to struggle week in week out to satisfy the church

interesting.....cause they said 10% quite clearly several times
something dodgy going on there. dont think pope
francis would be happy about that.

I repeat
A tithe (/ˈtaɪð/; from Old English: teogoþa "tenth") is a one-tenth part of something, paid as a contribution to a religious organization or compulsory tax to government.
i.e. 10%

Guess so. I'm just saying what a tithe is, and it's 10%

In my old area, a lot of land was donated to the Church upon the death of the faithful. There are schools on some of the former market gardens now.
Actually, I would say that at least 10% of the old farming land in the area was owned by the Catholic Church. On which is now housing and a major commercial hub.
And have you noticed, the highest land in any town, is mostly, crowned with a Church - nearer to God.

Don't you just love America's education system. Just kidding, i'm at fault for my bad spelling. I figure as long as you can understand it, the reply is passable. or is it passible, plausable. lol.
Dem bicycle woman thoughts she hads rights, lets get her, dem road made fer cars, not bicycle.

So it was a Catholic Church? I think it's more of just a general, what is considered reasonable amount. Probably more for the people that are like "Ooo I make all this money and I go to church, I want to give back something to my church, cos I'm trying to be a good christian but my $5000 per week job -honestly how many people do you know that make 5 grand a week?- is allowing me to gain a heap of material posessions...etc."
Every church is different (which is a problem with the Christian faith) But I'd very much doubt the church would be sucking the people dry that really cant afford it. I've always been under the impression that you give what you can afford and what you are happy to give. 10 percent of nothng will always be nothing (If you havent anything at all that you can afford to give...)

We have that same argument here. Some drivers think it's open season on cyclists.

that's what i have always thought.
also, it may have been a case of reading set passages
from the bible. they have a list of readings set for the year.
(you can easily find online what last weekend's homily
were about)
its probably similar to friday prayers when an imam
reads verses from the koran. we have seen how they can be
taken out of context and reported to the media.

Never heard of it,
never did it.
Will I have to back date?
