i dont fly either, prolly watched way too many episodes of those investigations into plane crashes.
someone forgot to tighten a screw and the plane crashed.
my thoughts are if my car has a problem i can pull over and call for help.
if my airplane has a problem, well....
i know i know the odds of dying in a plane crash are slim, but i choose to make em really small. a plane will need to crash on me for me to die in a plane crash.

I too watch Aircrash Investigation, but it has not stopped me from flying.
We have ben flying Melbourne to Cairns the last few winters, except this year.
Going by Train takes three to four days to get there and costs over AU$500, per person.
Going by car would take about a week. With petrol and overnight accomodation it would cost more than AU$1,000.- plus the wear and tear of the car.
Flying ecconmy and early booking cost AU$200.- per person and takes only three and a half hours.
The only way to spend time with my family up north and I would not want to miss that chance because I don't have the funds to take a more expensive alternative.
If I die, I die. Could get run over by a speeding car just going to the street corner to post some mail.
The carbon monoxide question is a worry and something will change in future. Aerolanes are not the only poluters. We have big factories around us that belch out tons and tons of black stuff into the air 24/7
Thank goodness for Aeroplanes, or I would not have been able to see my family for the last 20 years.

All the latest aircraft malfunctions lately are Boeing aircraft.
I don't fly. Passenger aircraft are actually one of the highest carbon emitters. The airlines will tell you otherwise but gas turbine engines create tons of carbon dioxide every second, that is how they work.
Anyway just think about and ask who made the aircraft you are about to enter. Your life may depend on it
Anyone who watches Air Crash Investigations would know crashes aren't limited to Boeing.... it's scary the tiny things that can cause crashes, like a loose screw, or a pilot missing a trivial safety check and so on.
As someone with a fear of flying anyway I do everything within my power not to fly. My fear isn't logical as certainly statistics show more crashes with vehicles but that's how I am. I once had a very good job that involved a lot of flying but I had to let it go. If I had family like Erica I'd do courses and counselling (or whatever one does) to try and overcome the irrational fear, it is so limiting.

I also have a fear of flying. Won't do it. Nuh uh

Stawks !!!!!!!!!!! You are soooo wicked!

I've probably watched every episode of Air Crash Investigations ever made - Mr Elephant is a big fan - but like Erica I'm philosophical about it. Statistically you're more likely to be killed in a car crash on the way to the airport than have your plane fall out of the sky.

yes, i've heard that, so i make sure not to drive to airports.
haha
i'm not overcome by fear of flying, if i had to fly somewhere and it was unavoidable i'd do it no problem.
i just choose not to.
i feel i have some control over my car when driving, yes could be killed by some other driver ploughing into me, but even then i have a chance to avoid them if i see them comming. also, not often a loose screw or even a wheel comming off kills you.
once things go wrong with a jumbo jet your only option is to bend forward, put your head between your knees and kiss your butt goodbye. you can try praying too if its your thing.
oh and 2 planes hitting each other, thats happened too.
