ICAC: Liberal Party official John Caputo admits giving cheques to Chris Hartcher

A Liberal Party official linked to Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Premier Mike Baird has come under fire at a corruption inquiry over thousands of dollars in cheques he gave to former state energy minister Chris Hartcher.

John Caputo, a fundraiser for Mr Abbott and Mr Baird and a former mayor of Warringah, admitted at the Independent Commission Against Corruption on Thursday that it was a "diversion" from normal practice to give political donations made out to the NSW Liberal Party directly to Mr Hartcher.

This included cheques handed over by donors at a March 2011 fundraising dinner attended by Mr Hartcher and former Attorney-General Greg Smith.

Junior counsel assisting the commission Greg O'Mahoney asked whether it "sounds a bit like a fraud" that cheques made out to the NSW Liberals were not given first to head office or its treasurer, as Mr Caputo said was the normal practice.

"No," Mr Caputo replied.

He said that Liberal Party donations were sometimes given directly to particular regions, but he struggled to recall other examples.

Have they questioned any Young Liberal party members yet?

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................

They should round up ALL young Liberal AND coalition party members under the age of 35 years....heavily scruntinize them - using independant interviewers of the highest expertise and with the best qualifications, of course - to decide if these young members actually do qualify and have the right attributes to continue on with their memberships.

Can't just leave it to party members to do this work, I mean, what would they know and goodness me the number of FRAUDSTERS amongest them....only fleeping daylight comes a distant second per the numbers.

Re: ICAC & The Entitled Liberals

12 May 2014

Newcastle MP Tim Owen has become the latest state Liberal to fall on his sword over revelations that donations from developers were illegally channelled into his 2011 election campaign.

A clearly emotional Mr Owen fronted the media in Newcastle on Monday, saying that, while he would not resign immediately, he would not contest the 2015 election because it "appears highly likely" that prohibited donors "did contribute in some way to my election campaign" without his knowledge.
Mr Owen said the revelations had "made me feel undermined and very sad".

Mr Owen was referring to evidence provided to the ICAC last week which alleged that "under-the-table" donations to his campaign were made to "sham" public relations company EightByFive by the Nathan Tinkler-backed Buildev development company.

Mr Owen refused to answer further questions at Monday’s press conference, and avoided earlier questions about who knew of, or facilitated, the Buildev donations to his campaign.
He also said that "recurring health issues" had contributed to his decision, but refused to elaborate.

ICAC and Caputo: Abbott and Baird's Manly problem

Last week, ICAC heard John Caputo, a key campaign fundraiser for both PM Tony Abbott and NSW Premier Mike Baird, has been allegedly passing dodgy donations to disgraced NSW Liberal MP Chris Hartcher that were subsequently laundered. Peter Wicks from Wixxyleaks reports.

IN THE ELECTORATE Tony Abbott shares with NSW Premier Mike Baird, things are heating up at the ICAC hearings.

A man has been brought before ICAC to explain dodgy donations and his links to alleged slush funds used to fund Liberal campaigns.

That man is John Caputo, the former Mayor of Warringah.

Royal commission into union corruption: Ralph Blewitt gives evidence over AWU slush fund that dogged Julia Gillard

Self-confessed union bagman Ralph Blewitt has told the royal commission into union corruption that he used $90,000 of AWU members' money to buy a Melbourne home.

Day one of the commission, presided over by former High Court judge Dyson Heydon in Sydney, is probing the slush fund scandal that dogged former prime minister Julia Gillard.

The Abbott Government has given Mr Heydon the task of investigating union slush funds and one in particular set up more than 20 years ago by Mr Blewitt and fellow AWU official at the time Bruce Wilson, who was also Ms Gillard's boyfriend.

Mr Blewitt says he and his then boss Mr Wilson established the AWU Workplace Reform Association primarily to raise funds for union elections.

Mr Wilson wanted to keep the association confidential and at arms length from himself, Mr Blewitt said.

"I did as instructed by Mr Wilson," he said.

"The whole thing was kept completely secret from anybody else."

Mr Blewitt and Mr Wilson are both accused of being behind a fraud in which hundreds of thousands of dollars from developers were paid into the slush fund and then siphoned off.

Mr Blewitt told the commission today that funds linked to the slush fund were used to pay a 10 per cent deposit for a $230,000 property bought in Victoria in 1993.

He said despite the property being purchased in his name he did not attend the auction, saying Mr Wilson and Ms Gillard attended the auction.

This C&P is so easy B1G, but I do believe my source (ABC) is somewhat more credible than the : Independant Australia. (Independant of balance?)

Why not start another thread about union corruption, or use one of the many already existing threads?

This is about the ICAC and the NSW Libs turn for the spotlight.
