Ian Thorpe

He is such an inspiration and a hero to us all, let's hope he receives the help he so desperately needs.

Re: Ian Thorpe

Scott Miller is another past Olympian who has fallen into drug abuse, I wonder if it's a lack of planning for their retirement?

Purple, our messages crossed . When answering your prior post, I was responding in general.  One wrong word changed the intended meaning.  "You" should have been "One".

I am pleased that you are now with a Nurse that may be able to assist you in your struggle.

Re: Ian Thorpe

Come to think of it there was another guy, Nathan Baggaley who was jailed for manufacturing and dealing in drugs.

Hopefully, PH, it won't be long before you can find a place to put your grief and depression that will allow you at least some respite from your demons. Good quality care and modality are so important for mental health.

Re: Ian Thorpe

Kieran Perkins was another one. They are groomed for success but not for when they become mere mortals again.

Ian Thorpe went to hospital on Wednesday night and released on Friday morning.

He signed himself out as per the latest news release, I don't like the sound of that. Rehab lasts longer then a couple of days.

Do you mean Grant Hackett? I don't recall anything about Perkins apart from his marriage break up.

Ian Thorpe's manager denies star swimmer is in rehab for depression and alcohol abuse

Updated 14 minutes ago

The manager representing Ian Thorpe says media reports the swimming star is in rehab for depression and alcohol abuse are untrue.

It has been widely reported that the 31-year-old entered rehab this week.

In a statement, his manager says that is incorrect and Thorpe was in hospital for a shoulder operation.

The statement says he is now out of hospital and on the mend.

Thorpe has been living in Switzerland for 18 months, but returned to Sydney to spend the Christmas period with his family at his parents' Panania home.

The 31-year-old, who has been seen at social events over the New Year, including the Australian Open in Melbourne, has spoken of constant pain from an old back injury.

He released an autobiography last year in which he said he had struggled with depression and alcohol abuse.

"Not even my family is aware that I've spent a lot of my life battling what I can only describe as crippling depression," the five-time Olympic gold medallist wrote.

Perkins has been very successful since his swimming career.  He is a lovely human being.
