But scientists are not much different. Some will defend the big bang theory by arguing everything came from nothing, which emerged from a "singularity"! And they will put forward a theory which they know nothing about and call it "dark", as in matter or energy. Then they will use buzz words such as "infinite" to try and get out of saying, "We don't know". Science and religion both try to dazzle us with words.

Yes it does tend to support the theories, but at this point they remain nothing more than theories. I have little doubt that a big bang like event occurred in the distant past. The CMBR evidence is almost irrefutable. But there is no evidence whatsoever to confirm the big bang was the absolute beginning of everything. It may have been the billionth bang with a billion more to come for all we know! And the true answer to the big question may not even be accessible in our universe. What it all narrows down to is 'we don't know', and neither do the scientists.

Gravity, for example, even though used and understood by almost everybody, is still only a theory. Science never goes past that, because undiscovered information/phenomena might require new theories. And looking at old theories through new eyes. Except possibly Einstein, who's theories are still underpinning the universe as we observe it. But they are still theories, even though they enabled nuclear fission/fusion, predicted black holes before we could observe them, and gravity waves ditto.

Science doesn't deal in absolutes, unlike imaginary friends.

LOL, thanks for the heads up Dave, but I bought Sagan's book and the DVD's decades ago. Science strives to deal in absolutes, that is the excitement and the challenge. Hawking spent his life trying to develop his theory of everything, but he was really looking for the answer. I have little doubt that some theories will be proven to be factual in the future. For example, numerous scientists believe the answer to whether we are alone in the Universe will be answered soon. Exciting times are ahead for the absolute answers, but unfortunately, probably not in our lifetime.

Scientists obviously strive for the "truth". Personally, I just go with the universe as we know it, simplifies things - & rids confusion.

Just don't see the benefits in believing in fairy tales, that is contained in the bible for example...not healthy for the mind IMO -
