Implanon .... advice please

Having seen the doctor today, he recommended the Implanon implant as the better form of contraception for me, happily wrote me a prescription and made an appointment for me to have it put in later in the week. So, as always, I went home sat down and googled it. OMG! Is there no one who has had a good experience with this? I am seriously considering telling him at the appointment to forget it and give me a script for the pill instead. I am about to move town, start a new job and move in with my partner. Mood swings, weight gain and constant bleeding don't fit so well with those plans! I am wondering if any one who is/has using Implanon can give me some advice. Thanks!

I think Az was replying to the OP, Purple, not to your post,

I agree with Az, Googling a product  is a bit like looking for info on the eBay buying board. - people tend not to post there unless they have a problem.

Oh okay..........sorry AZ, thought you were referring to my post.

Re: Implanon .... advice please

but who would post comments about it if they have no problem with it?

I think Az is probably correct, those suffering side effects are possibly the minority, but would be more vocal than those who did not, perhaps that is why the google search looks so bad.

My sister and I have both tried to use it but had problems but I dont think I know personally anyone else who has. As an aside, a friend of mine absolutely swears by the Mirena (I think its called) IUD and could be something else for you to look into.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have filled the prescription, but still haven't made up my mind. Appointment is next week so a few days to stew on it! Smiley LOL

I friend of mine has the Mirena and thinks its the best think since sliced bread. No periods at all apparently.

Re: Implanon .... advice please

I havent had a period for over 10 years thanks to (2 consecutive) Mirenas - much savings on feminine hygiene products as well as convenience but a bit of a nuisance now I am in the menopausal age range and have nothing to tell me whether its happening or I am just a moody cow!

I did put on weight with it, but suspect I would have anyway and it has a lot of bad press when you google as well.

Re: Implanon .... advice please

i  had my first shot of depo-ralovsomething (3-monthly). i am as happy as a pig in poo.

no weekly excruciating pain, nothing.

no thinking of the pill every day, no angst when i forgot it for the rest of the month....

i was contemplating the implant but i don't want another scar and what if i hit a pole/doorframe (will it shatter) as i am not very careful with my limbs?

Re: Implanon .... advice please

I don't know how old you are, but if you are finished with making babies and in a long term relationship i would be thinking about more permanent methods. I really don't understand why older women who have no intention of having more babies continue to pump hormones into their bodies.
