Implanon .... advice please

Having seen the doctor today, he recommended the Implanon implant as the better form of contraception for me, happily wrote me a prescription and made an appointment for me to have it put in later in the week. So, as always, I went home sat down and googled it. OMG! Is there no one who has had a good experience with this? I am seriously considering telling him at the appointment to forget it and give me a script for the pill instead. I am about to move town, start a new job and move in with my partner. Mood swings, weight gain and constant bleeding don't fit so well with those plans! I am wondering if any one who is/has using Implanon can give me some advice. Thanks!

Savings on feminine hygeine products! I can tell you all about that!

We could start with Diva Cups.

Re: Implanon .... advice please

Kennedia, it lasts three years which is the attraction, I guess. Chinchuck, that's not an option just quite yet, but I agree with you. But thanks for all the feedback, ladies. Much appreciated. At this point I am thinking Implanon is not for me. I just don't think I could handle not knowing if/when I was getting a period, for how long etc. It would drive me nuts.None of that sits well with a control freak Smiley LOL

Re: Implanon .... advice please

Have you considered non hormonal forms of contraception? I used a diaphragm for years before the mirena which isn't nearly as messy and inconvenient as people carry on. You can insert it hours before you might need it with a good dollop of spermicide and as a bonus it contains menstrual blood if it is an inconvenient time of month.

If the comment about permanent measures was directed at me (being the only menopausal crone to have commented) I initially had a mirena to help with heavy periods and it suits me to leave it, reaping the benefits until nature decides permanently for me. I don't see any reason to be neutered just because I have reached an age when it will happen naturally anyway and didn't want to make a permanent choice while still young and fertile.

The OP asked for some info about it, I said my dd had it done didnt have any side affects, like is listed on google.

Sorry, I missed this as I didn't come back in................ I know my reply was to you but I was replying to the op about no positive comments on a google search. The other posters are correct, that is what I meant, sorry for the confusion.

Generally people don't put positive results out there but do tell about the negatives.

Re: Implanon .... advice please

elizbeths-mum, thanks for the input. Much appreciated. I will have a chat with my doctor next week about other options. He was just very, very  keen to recommend the Implanon. I had researched it a little on the net before going in and wasn't sold on it  then. I should have just gone with my gut feeling and not let him persuade me! Smiley LOL Anyway, glad to have had my 'cooling off period' before having the Implanon procedure.

I don't know how old you are, but if you are finished with making babies and in a long term relationship i would be thinking about more permanent methods. I really don't understand why older women who have no intention of having more babies continue to pump hormones into their bodies.

i wanted to be sterilised when i was 16. i have not changed my mind, but the monthly pain has become very strong over the last years.

the pain maked my legs wobbly and hurts so much that i would prefer a screwdriver or two stuck in my leg.

i don't get a period at all with that depo-ralov... stuff. no pain, nothing, no messy blood either (which is a hassle when you want to use the husband).
