Italy has locked down their country , hundreds dead , thousands infected in one - two week , regions in quarantine , but only after thousands of untested fled

and Australia does ....... requests medical experts to evaluate status of Italian Travel Advice

I disagree but I think it's more likely an accident .  They closed Woohan pretty quickly trying to contain it.

I'm thinking this is the first time governments have acted on a global scale to contain the spread of a virus. I think also it's training world populations what to expect and how to act in the event of an outbreak. We were lucky in that the virus doesn't affect young children. What if the virus had been a killer?'

Maybe not a killer here but currently the mortality rate is almost 50% in Italy based upon condition of the patient at the time of discharge from hospital - and Italy is not the worst European country

Many disagreed with the sale of exoctic animal meat , many disagreed with selling live animals under the same roof as stored processed meat on display for sale. Many wrere suspect of hygiene standards,- winter time , high density market place, communal meals , public toilets , low sunshine , flu and cold active - maybe one person coughed within the perfect viral vegetable soup and 6 weeks later....  .

I have been thinking lately that how one country like Mainland China caused the shut down of another country namely Italy,  just like that, and countless deaths all over the globe and some countries are on the verge of having a recession placed upon them.

China has millions of it's own people living around the world but they are not armed, so we like to think, they do not represent any threats to peace anywhere. All it took was one or two wet-markets to unleash this cataclysm upon us all. It is stuffing up our daily life, family and freedom to commute to work to earn a living.

Not one angry shot was fired so it cannot be interpreted as a declaration of war. But, many has died. So, what can/should we call this? What is consider as the appropiate retribution by our leaders world-wide, towards China? Any comments?

Influenza kills hundreds of thousands per year without crisis - 60,000 in America not so long ago - so what makes this bug so worrying to those that have actually lived or are living through an established widespread advanced infection ?

Best "retribution" is to maintain trade and provide the means for Chinese students and visitors to tour here - just need facilities to house tourists in isolation for 2 weeks , need not be behind barb wire , could easily make Kangaroo Island suitable and give them something useful to do in restoring burnt land for the duration - might even end up being their best vacation. planting gum trees for cute koalas

anyhow i think the word " remedial" is a more appropriate term to use in this context than " retribution"

I don't think we should be seeking any retribution.

It wasn't done on purpose.

Our authorities have been waiting for a decade or more for something exactly like this to occur.

With the way travel is now, it was inevitable.

It was always likely that it would start in China or Asia because of the close association of animals/people, markets etc

All we can do is deal with it as best we can. Close borders, take care etc

I think one of our main problems is that we have cut out so many of our own industries and have let China take over. So now, if China slows down or suffers problems with production, we're going to feel it. But that is partly our fault, isn't it.

Not how it works - this is a website, not a country. No Bill Of Rights, no Constitution, no enshrined right to say whatever you want.

Your "rights" on any website - any website - consist of what the people running the site allow you to have, which you agreed to when you signed up.

Throw in my 2 cents worth , 'gwello, while agreeing with "performance's " understanding of forum governance , I agree with your sentiment . Here the moderators seem to uphold Australian "fair go" and tolerate the national self-depreciating humour, with the result of probably the most lively forum in the ebay universe ( In my opinion  no. 1 after the previously excellent US computer forum self-destructed from snide in-fighting  and more )

Re: Incredulous !

Unfortunately Italiy's situation has not improved since last Tuesday

Just shows how a situation can change so quickly , even in just two days

And our health authorities  must be in real-time communication to have decreed changes to our policy so quickly
