Is rainwater safe to drink?

The last place I lived had bore water laced with chlorine tablets (I was managing a caravan park out of town). It was tested monthly by the council & passed as safe to drink. Even though I only used it in cooking & to clean my teeth I had regularly bouts of diarrhoea.
3 years ago I moved to a rural property with tank water. I drink it all the time & haven't had a problem. I'm sure it's not pure, but it hasn't killed me yet.

before selling up and moving to wallaroo we had rainwater and a bore.

rainwater was used in the hotwater system and the evaporative airconditioner, it has several filters inline to catch any carp.

we drank bore water and used it for all cold water use. inside and outside the house.

the bore water tasted lovely, i miss that bore water.

here i drink tap water which is pumped from the river murray, put thru numerous cleaning processers ect, has clorine added and fluride. tastes allright, not unpleasent so i only buy water if i'm out somewhere and really need a drink.

of course there are so many ads on tv for filter systems and bottled water companies. i figure my forebares survived without bottled water so can i.
