We use our tank water for washing clothes, watering he garden but never for drinking or cooking .... We buy botted water for drinking 'cause the town water tastes disgusting

I know what you mean. When I was visiting Mackay back when the had a severe drought, we were on bore water. To me, the city dweller, it was horrible.
But then, being thirsty is pretty bad too, I believe.
