I checked to see if it was White Island and saw (or a very similar) that photo.

I wonder if deglaciation in the Antarctic could trigger earthquakes and seismic action that could wake up the Australian volcanoes?

Looks like steam same as comes from a geyser thingo. Doesn't look like a volcanic eruption.....no molten lava, ash etc.

Same thing, (super) heated water given off as steam.

 

I think White Island is active but that picture just shows steam.

I used to live in the Bay and we could see if t clearly from the beach.  There was nearly always a plume of steam/smoke coming from it.  My Dad used to say that when there was no smoke was the time to worry!!

 

It's a fascinating place to visit - stinks of sulphur of course and it's a bit of a hassle getting from the boat to the island (the old landing dock from the sulphur mining days is practically non existant now) but well worth the effort.
