Absolutely disgraceful David it bought tears to my eyes.
I do hope a proper investigation is undertaken - this type
of brutality is not on.

No, but I think the man has done some very bad things to the police or neighbours for them to react like that.
Think he might be a very nasty disabled person.
Still, if the police aren't smart enough to follow their training and handle it differently, maybe policing is not for them.
Will be interesting to hear the full story if it comes out.

My wife worked in the disability industry, very draining emotionally, and was attacked on two occasions, and never treated the people harshly, if fact, had a lot of empathy for the people.
Freddie, you summed it up in two words, absolutely disgraceful.

About 25 years ago, there was fish shop diagonally across the road from where I worked.
A man with mental disabilities went into the shop and threw everyone out, including the people behind the counter,
and began to cook his own fish and chips.
Two police arrived, but this guy was big. After a few minutes four more police arrived.
They manage to get him into the paddy wagon without treating him harshly. The cops surrounded, and then rushed in and held him so he couldn't take a swing at them, and kept him on his feet. I thought the cops handled the situation very well.
At the time I had a relative who was a cop at the same police station. I asked her what had happened.
She told me that the guy has a history of doing this sort of thing, and the cops are aware of how to handle him.
The police released him when the carer arrived.

Has no-one here actually read the link?
John was ill and distressed, withdrawing from the pain medication he has been on since his back surgery.
He has anxiety and depression and his health carers called emergency services, concerned by his deteriorating mental state.
He also has a minor assault on his police record from 10 years ago.
Police dispatch notes warned that John may confront police and attempt to provoke them into shooting him.
Why were the police told that he may attack them and provoke them into shooting?
As far as he was concerned he was in hs own home, minding his own business.
They forcibly dragged him out and assaulted him.
A minor assault charge from 10 years ago doesn't make him a recidivist. He complained that his back was hurting, and yet they still kneeled on it.
He's had back surgery and we all know depression follows when there is constant pain.
I'm disappointed that some posters here immediately jumped to the conclusion that he was a troublemaker.

Sheesh - it was a home invasion.
Poor bloke tried - simply to defend himself.
No crime committed.
A brutal, sadistic attack.
Throw the whole library at them.

like me, you read the story and came to a similar conclusion.
"Why were the police told that he may attack them and provoke them into shooting?" so why wasnt someone sent with the ability to talk him down if they felt he might be suicidal?
from what is seen he is as you say, in his own home, the police are tying to force their way in, with capsicum spray ready to deploy!
they claim he came out fists raised ready to fight, but we see no fists just a guy fending off may hands trying to grab him.
he is then sprayed with capsicum spray and wrestled to the ground whist one brave officer lays into him with his batton!
then to add injury to insult they squirt him with a high pressure hose in the face whist laughing at his predicament.
just to put a cherry on top, the leader of these thugs tells him he got what he deserved!
DESERVED! what did he do to DESERVE this?
OPEN his door?
if these things keep happening and i see no reason they wont if 'internal' investigations see no wrong doing, then why would the public feel safe opening a door to a cop?
or calling one in an emergency?
they seem to act first and think second.

Yes, it's horrifying to see what they did to him IMO.
I saw no fists, he was trying to push the capsicum spray away when they dragged him out.
They'd already tried breaking his security door to get him out.
If this is the way they deal with depressed people, we're all lost.
But now it's police investigating police, and that will never work.
Smug mongrels laughing at the poor guy.
It says Melbourne's northern suburbs. That's where I am, and I've had my own
terror at the hands of some police here, thanks very much.
They get power hungry and do this stuff for their own amusement when bored.
Bet they were surprised when they heard there was video.

I agree.
Thank goodness for the CCTV - he saw fit to install.
They didn't see that coming - obviously.
