Glencore tax bill on $15b income: zip, zilch, zero

Glencore, paid almost zero tax over the past three years

So what did LABOR do to stop this under their watch?

OOHHH thats right NOTHING at all.

Now why would a good labor socialist green govt do NOTHING at all to stop this?

Why didnt the labor green socialist govt stop this?

I agre that we do need to stop these huge OS companies from not paying tax in Australia and this was addressed by our PM on his recent trip to the USA. Companies like Google and Apple etc dont pay tax in Australia either

BUT whilst we are part of the UN and abide by international tax laws this will contine to happen

except it isn't in crisis, although our revenue would be a lot better if the big end of town were required (like most of us) to pay tax.

words are cheap, especially those that come out of abbotts mouth.....they don't want to upset their mates...

Australia criticised for stalling on tax evasion

A global anti-corruption agency has accused Australia of delaying action on tax evasion by failing to sign an early information swap treaty - part of its commitment to the G20.

Transparency International advocates for greater sharing of information between countries.

Senior program co-ordinator Maggie Murphy said it was disappointing Australia would no longer be an early adopter.

''If you're championing a process, if you're the leader of this group of nations, and you're at the same time saying we need an international body to take things forward, then you need to be part of that drive forward,'' she said

So far, more than 40 countries have signed up to the program, including developed countries such as Germany and Britain, and tax havens such as the British Virgin Islands. Australia has not signed, despite taking a leading role in countering tax evasion.

Treasury is believed to be stalling over compliance costs to have more time to consult business.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann declined to comment.

Ms Murphy said any extended consultation with business could diminish trust in Australia at the G20. ''If [there is] a behind-closed-doors discussion then I think they're going to lack the trust from other stakeholders,'' she said.

It doesn't matter who is responsible it needs to be fixed and if labour didn't then the libs need to step up and do their job, why tax individuals to to point of struggling to survive.

Why cut pensions schools hospitals all sorts of things while the real cash cow is running free living a very entitled life at the cost of ordinary peiople

If there's any side of politics that's going to turn a blind eye to corporate tax evasion/avoidance it's the right.
If there is a need for a Royal Commission,it's into the business world. It's a worldwide problem.Imagine all the dirty deals done by mining companies in places like Africa.I include Australian companies. The world's reluctant to act because business holds the whip hand.

so why havent the libs done something besides blead the average Australian?

If we are letting these companies dig this stuff up and ship it overseas and then send all the profits over seas and pay no tax plus expect hand outs why not send them back to where they came from and leave all the stuff in the ground, that should save us all a few billion
