It's time to stop the vile vitriol about Prime Minister Julia GillardPAUL SYVRET THE COURIER-MAILJUNE 18
LAST week the man likely to be federal treasurer come September fired off, in part, the following Tweet about Prime Minister Julia Gillard: "She has never deserved respect and will never receive it."
...
Unlike the personal vilification and denigration of our Prime Minister, however, it is the stuff that tends to stay where it belongs in the nether regions of the blogosphere.
Which is what makes Julia Gillard and the big smear all the more depressing and extraordinary - so much so that it is now making international headlines like this one over the weekend: "Treatment of Julia Gillard shows extent to which sexism is tolerated in Australia".
The sub-head in The Irish Times newspaper reads: "Prime Minister is attacked relentlessly in contemptible, offensive terms".
"It is almost impossible to picture all of the above (abuse) happening in most other modern countries," the newspaper says. "Can you imagine the outcry if, for instance, a political rival had stood in front of signs calling (former Irish politician) Mary Harney a (edited:rhymes with witch) or if a menu had referred to her genitalia?"

Paul Syvret from the CM has been politely described in the past as:
"Paul Syvret ...a die-hard Labor lackey " which having read some of his past utterly partial rants, would seem a gentle description. However, a popular scribe in the eyes, whoops eye, of some here I have no doubt.
IS, do not worry about the "international coverage", of the Irish times 90,000 circulation, the G8 meeting, and the Syria war have just pipped our PM's discomfort, and as for our children (have not seen that card for a while) their video games and on-line activities keep them occupied in gore and insults..
What indeed would people think apropos Mary Harney?
"A woman was arrested in Dublin this morning after she threw some red paint at Mary Harney"
Mary Harney was never a PM, but just a not very popular politician, and once a leader, for a while, of a rump party which went down the gurgler.
I guess though that is very similar to Gillard , PM (Poor Mary)

You have not have seen or thought about Australia's children for a while .As a Mum (NB not Mummy though I see neither as an insult) and a Grandmother they (the next generation) are always on my mind .As they should be to anyone who cares about the well being and future of our Country. How can anyone feel they have the right the comment on the behaviour of young people when they are being shown that this is the way to treat our PM ? When extremely anti social behaviour seems to being justified by adults..adults who model that very behaviour to them ?
Good on Lieutenant-General David Morrison for sending the right message .It's one we as a country could do well to take note of.
Australia army chief tells sexist soldiers to 'get out'
FRIDAY JUN 14, 2013
Australia's army chief on Friday told troops to quit if they could not respect women, warning he would ruthlessly rid the military of misogynist men after a new sex scandal exploded.
Lieutenant-General David Morrison said no stone would be left unturned to weed out those who "exploit and demean" female recruits.
"I will be ruthless in ridding the army of people who cannot live up to its values," he said in a message posted on the Australian Defence Force website and YouTube.
"Those who think that it is okay to behave in a way that demeans or exploits their colleagues have no place in this army.
"If that does not suit you, then get out. You may find another employer where your attitude is accepted, but I doubt it.
"The same goes for those who think that toughness is built on humiliating others."
The hardline comments follow Morrison's revelations Thursday that 17 personnel, including
officers, were under investigation after hundreds of "explicit and repugnant" emails and images demeaning women were uncovered.
Almost 100 other recruits were implicated.

"But the question I have for them is why didn't you do something about it," he said.
"Why didn't you tell me?"

Respect is earned, it is not conferred as a right of office. As a woman, I have no respect for Julia Gillard. I have no respect for anyone who lies to me.
And yet, if any of those here who consider you as undeserving of respect as you do Julia Gillard, were to express that disrespect in the same terms used to publicly abuse Gillard, imagine what the result would be.

Respect is not earned, it is a given... imo disrespect is earned.

This should be the case in civilised society,
it depends ?
Jill Meagher is dead and the man who killed her claims the trigger for his attack was that when he approached her and attempted to make conversation, she rebuffed him: ''She flipped me off and that made me angry."
