James Foley beheaded: ISIS claims to have killed US journalist

US journalist James Foley, believed held captive in Syria, has reportedly been beheaded as a “message” to President Obama.

Unconfirmed video and pictures of photojournalist James Wright Foley’s heartbreaking final moments have been published via Twitter by accounts claiming to be associated with the Islamic State, previously known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Mr Foley was abducted in Syria, in 2012, while covering the campaign against President Bashar al-Assad. He wrote for a variety of media organisations including the AFP news agency.

The identity of the man in the high-definition footage, titled “A Message to America”, has not yet been officially confirmed. The YouTube file, originally uploaded on Tuesday, has since been deleted.

I just hope they/we (the west) dont retaliate with fear as the motivater.

This group seem hell-bent on establishing the caliphate and ruling over an Islamic state.  Now what I want to know is why cant they have an Islamic state (in the middle east) under a nationalist, religious regime? Why do we have to get involved in these wars (I know it doesn't help that we (as in the west) started alot of trouble in the middle east but if I was PM I'd be working with our biggest Allies (America, UK, Europe, NZ ect) to pull out of all military operations that are/have been ongoing in these regions, promote the Islamic state, push for creating some new borders (come on, this is something colonizers generally do, but this is a unique situation imo so it needs to be approached differently), and organize aid packages to support the millions of innocent people who have lost their family members, homes, schools, hospitals ect since this God forsaken War on Terror began.  

I think the writing is on the wall pretty clear.  Western militaries need to gtfo of these dangerous, barbaric regions.  Come back home to their respective countries and guard their own borders.  Because honestly if it's a bad as these articles make out then we are going to be sorry we laid down our arms into the gun amnesty...

wonderland I may be wrong but I don't think they would stop at one extreme Islamic state, they want to take over whole middle east and then the rest of  the world

didn't they start in Iraq, where we took  power away from the Suni's and a Shia govt. was voted in? unfortunately the Shia govt discriminated against the Suni's as the Suni's had done to the Shia. then some radical nutter started this Isis group, I don't know where Isis are getting their backing from, but thy have plenty of funds and they also sell oil ( to whom I don't know) Ironically it is American weapons they are using that were given to the Iraquie army

I'm hearin ya Debra.  Does seem a little strange that they would be getting around in American tanks and armoured vehicles ect (I read that they overthrew an American military base somewhere in Iraq and thats how they aquired them...)  

The taking over the whole world thing I think would ease down if we just gtfo of their business.  Those two sects of Islam were fighting long before the war on terror started and will probably be still at each others throats long after it has ended. 

Some things that keep on getting overlooked imo are the IS movement (not unlike Israel) is a nationalistic movement. They want a country free from occupation and interference from other nations (much like Israel) and they want to merge their religion back into their state, which in a sense is facism (Israel claims to be secular but I think anyone who knows even a tiny bit about Zionism would have to agree that it is an Ideology not too disimilar to that of merging religion/ethnicity/nationality/culture with state.

And I know I always bang on about the children but something that the IS propaganda video  reeked of is that they have suffered being orphaned from their chldren (like some Israelis but many, many more Syrian, Iraqi, Lebonese, Palestinian, Afgani and handful of others that tick the terrorist box so are covered by the war on terror. ) and they are not going to stand for it anymore (much like Israel) they are enforcing a kind of conscription to over 16 year olds (not unlike Isreal, not sure what age you have to be but I'm pretty sure they have compulsory service in the IDF once they hit a certain age) IS are indroctrinating the children from a young age about the importance of their religion and culture and history and that you should fight for what you believe in (much like Israel)
