That is sad news to me...I appreciate his work.

Jeffrey Smart was a friend of my grandfathers and he painted my grandfather when he became principal of his very first school. It hangs in my fathers house . It captures him perfectly...not very officious...a big softy...with a mischeivous "motorbike riding trumpet blowing" glint in his eye..

How wonderful to know your family has this painting by Jeff Smart of your grandfather. Is there any chance you might photograph it and make it available for lovers of Smart's work to see. It sounds marvellous- what a lucky man your grandfather is!

Lakeland, I cancelled my post when I realised the thread was started when he died last year..

I have no idea of why it has been revisited....dragged out of the archives.

But I know what you mean by the Murdoch press.
