Juicing - who does it?

I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired so I've decided to start juicing. I bought a Breville Juice Fountain online. It arrives next week.

Has anyone done this juicing thing before? How did you feel? Do you have a favourite recipe?

I have a juicer and use it periodically but recently I was told that the only way to maximise the goodness of the fruit is to use a "cold press" juicing machine which does not bruise or pummel the fruit but squeezes it so the juice is just as good as it is if you just eat it.

apparently these juicers are more expensive but better.

Agrees with newstart. Those juicers are around $400? I don't have a juicer, but would like one of those.

The mechanical juicers (like the Breville) make the juice 'fluffy'' to, which I don't particularly like  especially when buying a freshly squeezed cup of juice from a store or market.. it doesn't have much substance.

Please don't hurt your poor body by giving it only juice to survive on 😞

You need PROTEIN for energy, not fruit or juices. Proteins are the body's building blocks. I'm guessing you may not get sufficient protein, being a vegetarian (sorry, I know that's a gross generalisation), many vegetarians rely mainly on carbs for food, as protein is harder to bulk up on without meat.

Also don't forget that diary is important for bone health.

For a quick start, go to the doc and get him to give you a round of Vitamin B injections, bulk up the protein in your diet and eat only very low GI carbs.

I recommend lettuce (the older dark green leaves) juice, i juice it with carrot and a small piece of apple.

It's awful but better tasting than spinach juice, with much the same pick-me-up.

You'll get used to it.

MOnsters, i don't think anyone means to ONLY have juice, it's a supplement, not a replacement.

But, I agree with the low carbs.

Our 'normal' carb type diet is incredibly unhealthy, as most refined carbs turn straight into blood sugar and screw up the bodies insulin balance.

It catches up with you eventually.

It all sounds totally revolting to me :_|

I think I'll stick with eating my fruit and veggies as they come fersh off the tree/plant or out of the ground 😄

as protein is harder to bulk up on without meat.

That's just an excuse to be lazy... You can get plenty of protein and iron from other sources than meat, you just have to be willing to eat lentils, chickpeas, and other pulses.. It's not that hard and actually more beneficial getting protein direct from the plant rather than the animal..

The problem with animal protein is you often get too much, which is why you will often feel tired and sluggish after a big feed of meat. This is because your body has to work harder to digest all the excess protein instead of doing better things like regenerating..

Thanks for your suggestions. I've decided not to go on a juice fast but incorporate vege juices in my diet.

Juicing is a fabulous way of getting an energy hit. I've done this before and it works. A juice for breakfast works because your body doesn't have to work at digesting the fibre/pulp. I'd rather have a juice than try to eat 2 carrots, a bunch of kale, a whole cucumber, 1/4 of a beet, an apple and 1/4 lemon at breakfast.

The 1/4 lemon at breakfast would be ok, just as long as you had a bottle of tequilla to wash away the sourness! :^O

I do juicing.  I have a "Juice Man" juicer!  It's huge and takes up so much bench space.

I have a special juice program (along with solid foods) that was designed by me for a medical nutritionist.  Because I do weight training I also need a lot of protein to build muscles, but try to go low on the carbs.

*** LADIES *** if you have a fat/flabby/bloated tummy and you cut out carbs (or at least gluten) you will find that within a week your tummy is SOOOOOO much flatter - it's amazing.  Most tummy "fat" is food bloat.

I'm intolerant to gluten but went on a bread 'feast' a couple of weeks ago for a week. I was craving fresh bread rolls and toasted focccia (sp?).

I stopped eating gluten last Tuesday because I felt sick, spacey, dizzy, headaches, bloating ... and I've also noticed I'm p'ing way more so it must have caused fluid retention too.

What's your favourite juice aspie?
