Former prime minister Julia Gillard has attacked inept US Republican presidential candidates in an endorsement for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
In the video posted on Clinton's website, Ms Gillard is critical of the way in which Republican presidential candidates make "cheap and easy statements" on foreign policy.
"Hard words often get very ugly reactions," the former Labor leader says.
"And there's a real risk when people are campaigning for office that they use characterisation that is quick and might play in some constituencies back home but does damage that reverberates for years and years."
Ms Gillard says that if she was an American she would want to see the reputation of the USA get stronger rather than be put "at risk because of cheap and easy statements being injected into complex foreign policy debates".
The video features pictures of candidates Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Marco Rubio.
The Republican presidential candidates were widely criticised for their poor performance during a televised debate focusing on foreign policy issues.
Trump has called for Muslims to be banned from entering the US.
Chris Christie said during the debate he would be more trusted by King Hussein of Jordan than President Barack Obama when it comes to fighting Islamic State.
But King Hussein died in 1999.

on reading it through though it says the "estimate" is based on Howards costs
With taxpayer funded pensions for life worth an estimated $200,000 a year, Labor's ex-PMs will double the retirement costs of former Prime Minister John Howard who served for 11 years. Based on Mr Howard's annual office, travel and car costs of $300,000 a year, the cost of keeping two former Labor PMs is likely to cost taxpayers up to $1 million a year in pensions, travel, car and office costs.
so they all get $200,000 for life but not sure on the $300,000 costs

it was brought up by djilukjilly in posts 13 and 15 what past politicians get in pensions. whether they are good or bad politicians they now receive about the same. I don't have a problem with that either.. not sure I agree with all the other expenses they claim, offices transport etc., a fairy high cost precedent was set by John Howard it seems.
i do still think that they can do whatever they choose to do after retiring from Parliament though
a bit more on politicians super etc.

To take as pension for life when you are a millionaire is sickening, Rudd should be ashamed of himself and all the perks he's getting from the taxpayers. Didn't he do enough damage whilst he was PM and didn't he engineer the downfall of Gillard and subsequently his own party.
on โ23-12-2015 07:11 PM
Well that's fair enough as long as you're also upset that Malcolm turnbull will get a lifetime pension as well. He is also a millionaire and will be entitled to the same. ( he also was involved in the demise of Tony abbot) who didn't even serve one full term as PM ( and abbott will also get entitlements)
on โ24-12-2015 10:57 AM
How do you know Turnbull will take a pension? after all heโs not lodging in Kirribilli House thus saving us millions.
on โ24-12-2015 11:32 AM
his own house is bigger than Kirribilli House- thaty's why he didn't move- research it
How do you know he won't??
on โ24-12-2015 11:45 AM
did it for you
PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull will not live in the official Sydney residence Kirribilli House, preferring instead to stay in his $50 million harbourside mansion.
Mr Turnbull confirmed on Monday night he and wife Lucy would remain in their Point Piper residence and use Kirribilli โ vacated just this week by Margie and Tony Abbott โ for official functions only.
โLucy and I will continue to live, that is to say sleep, in our house in Sydney which is agreeably close to our grandson,โโ he told the ABC.
Malcolm Turnbull will soon have to decide whether to shift from his sprawling Point Piper estate โ with its own boatshed, private jetty and swimming pool โ to the arguably less prestigious digs of Kirribilli House.
While most Australians would move into the historic prime ministerial estate in a heartbeat, for Mr Turnbull it would mean a sacrifice in comfort.
Despite boasting point blank views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, Kirribilli House is no match for the Turnbullsโ ornate 1930s Mediterranean-style home, which faces the secluded Lady Martinโs Beach and is believed to be worth at least $50 million.
abbott also did not live at Kirribilli house instead optting to live in a unit at AFP headquartewrs, while his daughter rented Kirribilli House paying $250.00 pw rent

Taxpayers are spending $3,000 a week to rent a house in Canberra that Prime Minister Tony Abbott does not want to live in.
Mr Abbott has been staying at the Australian Federal Police training headquarters while The Lodge undergoes major repairs.
It has emerged the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet signed a 12-month lease on a house in August, during the caretaker period
But department official Elizabeth Kelly says Mr Abbott made it clear shortly after the election he did not want to live there.
( that's another house and waste of taxpayers money)
