they arrive by plane
Yes they do, in more numbers than by boat, but do you notice nobody mentions that kind of illegal entry?....overstaying a visa is a bit like having intent by comparison, because without doubt it IS illegal. I've always wondered why our shallow MSM isn't reporting on the numbers overstaying their visa deliberately??

Because we don't see them on the news when they arrive by plane?
Because the Bolts/Ackermans/Joneses haven't made an issue of it?
Because the ones that arrive by plane are less likely to be, umm, Islamic maybe?

Past that I don't know much about the politics between Indonesia and Australia re: asylum seekers...(so I'm interested in finding out what others know)......what I do know is that Millions are on the move worldwide because war=refugees, and they have to go somewhere....are we missing the point maybe?..don't know...but I think it's time the cause came into the discussion and the debate should take place on a 'global' level. It's a global problem isn't it?
Sorry Cue, haven't you heard it's all Gillard and Rudd's fault.
Global increases in refugee numbers have nothing to do with our issues.
It's all Gillards fault. Have you been under a rock or something. Johnny Howard had it sorted and that bad woman came along and stuffed everything. Everything I tell you. she should be tossed out in a chaff bag, so far out she can't swim back. Didn't anyone ever tell you Aussie people that women should be silent in public? How dare she step on all those male toes. The first female PM was supposed to enter the scene in the old boys club time and she was supposed to be a Lib. Not some heathen red haired atheist who is not even married and has never even had children.
:^O:^O
This morning an MP was dribbling the same old same old crap about Bad Gillard, then addressed all the "good" people on her side. Spew worthy crap.

because it makes better news if they sell the impression that the thousands are swamping our shores in leaky boats and throwing their kids overboard as emotional blackmail.

Not to mention that her boyfriend is a metrosexual and not a budgie-smuggler wearing triathalete.
He too must shoulder some blame for the global refugee crisis surely?

Anyway, what is there to discuss in Indonesia?
It's an insurmountable global problem that won't go away and each country needs to manage their own countries involvement under worldwide humanitarian laws.

I heard on the radio this morning that Morrison is talking about jettisoning those humanitarian laws as they currently apply to Australia.
This same morning the horrendous conditions that apply to asylum seekers we have sent to Nauru were deemed to be legal.
Aside from the humanitarian concerns, I believe that Australia is making a huge economic loss with actions against refugees. Many of the ones who get here have incredible skills and experience they could share with us ... too many educated people are driving taxis, cleaning offices, or doing other jobs when they are qualified as accountants, doctors, teachers, and many other professional occupations.
What do we do? Stick them in detention, sometimes for years, drive them insane, leave the children uneducated ... it's inhumane and economically ridiculous.
Meanwhile, we bring other people here on 457 visas ...
