Kevin Rudd has sold out to get elected?

I'm really disappointed.  Now we are not just the lucky country.  We are the up yours country.

Refugees are being turned back to suffer in PNG.   Every election I am so sick of the boat refugees being used.  Every single time since Howard got in with the kids being thrown into the water to drown it's been the most disgusting use of human life to rule a country.

Shame on you Rudd.

There are so many pre-election scams from both sides of politics. Neither side can calim to be guilt-free in this. The baby bonus introduced by the Howard govt was a blatant excercise in vote buying.

It's politics, remember? It's a dirty, underhanded, duplicitous game and all the players know this.

Have a read... how solid is this arrangements and how much is it going to cost us...

Are we going to pay for all the expenses of ALL the refugees into PNG...

cat, we know Rudd would eat his own to get elected in whenever he intends to call the electiion.

We know h he would have sold the farm to PNG to get some kind of solution the the problem HE created. What is he going to do about the riots on Nauru? not a word, not a peep, if he doesn't comment on it it never really happened did it?? that's his style.

He makes the "announcement" then we don't see or hear from him again until the nnext "announcement". That is his MO.

The caucus will pass this today or whenever they meet again but it may never get through again  if he loses the election.

We will never be told the untold billions Rudd outlaid, the bribes & sugar he put on the table for PMG & we will never be told the full policy or costings until after the election.

This is governing by stealth but that's what he does best, one only has to look at what he did to Gillard, this man is relentless & vengeful, a very dangerous person & I said that about him the last time he was PM.

PNG is 4km from Australia...

many PNG'ers make it here by dingy weekly...  they come shopping here, they seek medical attention here, they sneak in a little bit of cash in hand work here...

How long before the people smugglers figure that out and make another route??

The problem with that scenario is that once these people are officially settled in PNG they have no basis to seek refuge here or anywhere else.  So while they could get into a dingy (after crossing PNG to the closest point) and come to Australia and they would not even need help of smugglers, that would be illegal and they can be sent straight back, which is only 4 km.

That is WHY people will avoid being sent to PNG, once there they will have to stay there for ever.

Re: Kevin Rudd has sold out to get elected?

PNG has the death penalty... It has a problem with children and women being raped and that is why they have reintroduced it. And the new minister wants to send women and children there... including unaccompanied minors...

It has thousands of people living in shanty towns because there are no jobs, housing or welfare to suit.

Will this stand up to court appeals???? I don't think so.

Australia will be paying for these people to live there... building them homes, paying their welfare, providing all medical assistance...  for as long as it takes...

I do not think that this is the right solution...

One thing I do agree with is the reward for dobbing in a people smuggler... that is a very good idea.

First you didn't want them in Australia, now you don't want them in PNG. Where do you want them? Out of our hemisphere? Lol!

Like most things Labor introduce there is not much thought given and it will cost lives and billions of dollars.   Rudd wants to win the election and he will stoop to all levels to win.    It's going to take months to build facilities on Manus  to cater for these arrivals and it is only for 12 months.

Where have I ever said I don't want them in Australia???

I love it how you put words in my posts that were never there to start with...

I have ALWAYS said that I agree with TPV's.... give them a safe haven, but if they arrive by boat do not let them buy land, houses, units.... do not let them have any family reunion... do not let them fly home to visit (don't forget they are too scared to live there)..

Let them work and save money... and when the wars are over let them go back to their homeland and use that money that they earned here to restart a new life back home..

Re: Kevin Rudd has sold out to get elected?

They have a 2 page agreement with PNG. Nothing is settled this is just an announcement before the electin so he can win. This is the worst of Labor writ large for all to see.

That makes way too much sense.
