Kevin Rudd has sold out to get elected?

I'm really disappointed.  Now we are not just the lucky country.  We are the up yours country.

Refugees are being turned back to suffer in PNG.   Every election I am so sick of the boat refugees being used.  Every single time since Howard got in with the kids being thrown into the water to drown it's been the most disgusting use of human life to rule a country.

Shame on you Rudd.

There are 6,000 asylum seekers in Indonesia.  We could absorb them all easily, teach them English and get them to work.

Most of the asylum seekers who get legally settled here are intelligent and skilled.  A friend of mine, a doctor from Afghanistan, is being fast tracked in her medical training in hospitals in QLD because she is so very clever.  We have engineers, architects, lawyers, linguists here from other countries and a lot of them are driving taxis or cleaning offices ...

Australia is spending BILLIONS of dollars keeping the asylum seekers out instead of giving them a bit of support and then collecting their tax dollars.

Is that a joke?  I read that there have been about 6 days in history when no war was being waged.

Afghanistan's wars will still be going on when our great great great grandchildren are old.

Not of our making.

Not of our making and they were mainly regional until the US decided they'd like to stir the pot by supplying weapons to the rebel warlords.

I think it's just cruel to allow people to stay for 10 or more years then send them on their way.

Children who have grown up in Australia are sent back to third world countries after living most of their lives over here.

That is cruel and unreasonable. That is what I don't like about TPVs.

We contributed greatly, as did our world-wide "friends".
So the refugees will be here for hundreds of years waiting for their countries to be at peace.

Re: Kevin Rudd has sold out to get elected?

The best idea is to stop the boats and increase our intake from camps.... but there are way more people in camps than the rest of the world to absorb... We cannot help everyone.. but we can make it a better process and to discourage the people arriving by boats you need to have some deterrents.

The idea that they don't get to stay forever is a deterrent, that is what TPV's are...

much better than sending anyone to a country that has the death penalty to live.

First you didn't want them in Australia, now you don't want them in PNG. Where do you want them? Out of our hemisphere? Lol!

Where have I ever said I don't want them in Australia???

I love it how you put words in my posts that were never there to start with...

I have ALWAYS said that I agree with TPV's.... give them a safe haven, but if they arrive by boat do not let them buy land, houses, units.... do not let them have any family reunion... do not let them fly home to visit (don't forget they are too scared to live there)..

Let them work and save money... and when the wars are over let them go back to their homeland and use that money that they earned here to restart a new life back home..

So we allow them to work and pay taxes. We allow them to get comfortable here (without a house of course), allow them to make friends, for their children to be educated, for them to start businesses.

But when the war is over, bingo! we send them back to ...nothing?

So lets look at the Iranian refugees. Their war started in the early 80s. Many of them started the mass exodus out then via the various aid organisations or through their own means. They languish in refugee camps for a decade or so and eventually some of them finally managed to get to Australia (or wherever). Some come through the refugee program, some by boat. Now their children have grown up here/been born here and had their own children and are now starting to have grandchildren. Their country probably won't be safe for another 20 years (if they are lucky). Do we send the whole darned lot back? Or just their now elderly and decrepit parents who made the mistake of making it here alive in the first place?

It all sounds so simple doesn't it?
