I'm really disappointed. Now we are not just the lucky country. We are the up yours country.
Refugees are being turned back to suffer in PNG. Every election I am so sick of the boat refugees being used. Every single time since Howard got in with the kids being thrown into the water to drown it's been the most disgusting use of human life to rule a country.
Shame on you Rudd.

There is 42 000 000 displaced people in the world, and according to this morning news on the ABC there is a bit over 10 000 people waiting for resettlement in Jakarta. Yes, we could easily take them all from Jakarta, but that moment that we did, the word would get out and there would be soon many more hoping to come here too.
My heart says "bring them all here" but my pragmatic myself thinks the only way to deal with the situation as firstly stop the boats, which Rudd's scheme will do, therefore any talks about how much it will cost to settle people in PNG is redundant. Well, except for the poor souls who arrived yesterday and who did not know about the deal. The advertisements are necessary to make sure that people know what would happen if they get into a boat; so they are not waste of money. Then start processing the people in detention centres as fast as possible and get them, especially the children into the community as fast as possible.

I heard the number of 6,000 of asylum seekers in Indonesia earlier this morning on Radio National.
With rebuilding Nauru ... what's the point? If all future asylum seekers are going to PNG, why bother rebuilding Nauru???
LOL, I'm a bleeding heart leftie with a strong economic thrust ... I like policies that make economic sense. NEITHER of the two major political parties have refugee/asylum seeker policies that make sense ... they both seem to be throwing money after a problem that doesn't really exist.
I do like you, Nova 🙂

...and by the way, the advertisements are not waste of money, advertising the fact here in Australia is the best way for the word to spread quickly to o/s. People here who have friends and relatives planning the journey will let them know within seconds by phone or SKYPE. And the word will spread even before billboard ads in Jakarta can be organised.
