I've managed 2 loans this time but have a bit in the kitty so I may just do a top-up for the third. One of mine if still raising funds ... if anyone feels inspired.
I should be able to do 2 or 3 more before November.

I started with a $25 loan, that was paid back fairly quickly, have never had a delinquent loan either. Today I had $18 credit so I came across a lady who needed $25 to complete her loan. I added a little over $10 to it.

Hi June,
It is set up by financial institutions around the globe.
Individuals then put funds into a kiva account in which they can lend to no so fortunate individuals or groups that are making an effort to improve their standard of living or simply trying to survive.
I have around $300 in my account and receive around 25-50 each month in repayments as I usually select short period loans. That way I can relend faster meaning more benefit from my loans.
There is an option to pay the $3 admin costs on each loan as a donation which I do.
You get to see the person receiving the loan and what the loan is for making it more personal.
If all your funds are payed back and you don't want to relend you simply withdraw the funds from your account. I have a feeling not many do as it's a very simple and rewarding scheme.
A group in kiva was started by the author of this thread and we have 17 members now.
Have a look at their site and if you are interested feel free to join our group as any loans you make also count towards the group.
Community Spirit group - http://www.kiva.org/team/community_spirit and look at azures link as well.
If you have any other questions don't hesitate ask. k5
