Assange's father to start legal action against Tony Abbott, Julie Bishop
Julian Assange's father has engaged a silk to start legal action against Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop over comments relating to his political party's controversial visit to Syria.
John Shipton came under fire after the Australian WikiLeaks Party sent a delegation to Syria to meet accused war criminal, President Bashar al-Assad.
Mr Shipton is claiming that the comments made by Mr Abbott and Ms Bishop defamed him.
Because of the defamatory statements made against myself by Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, we have asked barrister Clive A. Evatt to begin defamation proceedings seeking $5 million in damages in each case," he said.
Mr Evatt said Mr Shipton had rung him from England on Thursday to engage his services.
"He's suing on defamatory comments made by Ms Bishop: They were all in The Australian a couple of days ago.
"She called him 'stupid and reckless', so he's suing on publicly being called stupid and reckless – that's Bishop.
"And Tony Abbott said more or less the same thing, reported in the media this morning."

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison has stopped holding weekly news conferences on asylum seeker boat arrivals, instead issuing a written statement with no opportunity for journalists to ask questions.
Mr Morrison put an end to the previous practice of the Immigration Department announcing asylum seeker boat arrivals in real time, saying this amounted to a ''shipping news service for people smugglers''.
Instead, he pledged to give weekly media briefings on the Coalition's progress in stopping asylum seeker boats. But Mr Morrison provided his last briefing for the year a week ago.
For the first time since late September, Mr Morrison did not appear before the media despite his office insisting he was not on leave. His spokesman would not say when or whether the briefings would resume, saying the government would have more to say on the subject in the new year.

I personally think people who are ignorant of current affairs lack maturity...they can be a bit insular, IMO.

Economists.. for one.. admit the policies are failing. For example, they have researched and said Abbott will not be able to create $1m jobs in five years.. one of Abbott's election promises.
Broken election promises are just that.. fact
