Labor ahead in the polls

Re: Labor ahead in the polls

JMK: "Mm have you seen the polls this morning? Haha! Up up up goes labor, as people see how abbott fails each day"

JMK do you actually  remember the  polls over a year or two when Poor Me was in charge ?

Exactly what relevance  is there in a current poll with some 3 years of Coalition government to run, other than to ease the debilitating pink  PPTSD?

P01: "And the 457 Visa comment is relevant .... why ?"

Because this is a political thread, and during the pre-election jousting the ALP's head office (ACTU) were bitterly complaining about organisations importing foreign labour under 457 visas which they asserted needed to be  reviewed.   I honestly think the ALP could have dug up someone local  who could have advised our Poor Me  just as badly as McTernan did, with her natural help of course! e.g:  "the idea of photographing Julia Gillard knitting a toy kangaroo for the royal baby" was his."

A Scottish adviser for a Welsh born  Australian Poor Me  supposedly knitting a toy for an English royal baby.  No one would ever include the person who dreamt   that one up as a member of their staff.

Fair enough John, I'm not a great fan of 457 Visas, nor was I a great fan of McTernan, but, hey, everyone makes mistakes.  As for digging up someone local, I am sure they could have, maybe ended up with someone like Credlin.

I note that Abbott is a fan of 457's though ... in a recent address to the IPA .... (the LNP's Head Office ?) ... "In  his IPA Address, Abbott said that ‘under a Coalition government, 457  visas won’t be just a component but a mainstay of our immigration  program.’"

Anyway, where's my graph of "Appreciation of the Monty Python Humour Genre v Political Affiliation ?

Re: Labor ahead in the polls

Accountability is not an acceptable thing for some.

I'd be  feeling really really embarrassed and in some part accountable if I was some people...

and yet the defence/attack/excuses continue ?

which I'd feel even more embarrassed about

not directed at anyone

I do wonder if Chris Pyne gets any redder in the face ?

LL:     "mctiernan came to fill a specialised position"

Actually the position as head of communications, a taxpayer-funded post,  is not specialised,  it just requires a good 'head kicker" and tactician. Knitting a toy kangaroo ??????????

"In 2007 McTernan was seconded to the Scottish Labour Party to run its campaign for the May Scottish Parliament general election. The Scottish Labour Party lost power."

Seems like he hasn't lost his touch!

Re: Labor ahead in the polls

Not the first bad appointment John, and it certainly won't be the last.

Off-topic, but emblematic (maybe) of bad appointments - and maybe under 457 Visa rules (I am not sure of this) was the less-than-succesful appointment of Sol Trujillo to the CEO of Telstra Man Happy

regardless of his success or no , its still the case.  a bit like the current PM , i can't deny he is PM but i can laugh at what a lousy PM he is Smiley Happy i doubt anyone could have made gillard look good (apart from abbott ATM) in light of a concerted media campaign to have her booted by vested interests. mctiernan didn't fail as nobody could have succeeded against the might of our true overlord rupert .

Re: Labor ahead in the polls

Don't forget Mr Rudd was leading in the polls when he took office as PM, then down, down he went until Ms Gillard was persuaded to knife him in the back. All was  good and  Ms Gillard was leading the polls until she defaulted on her promises, then down down she went until Mr Rudd had to take the helm again, only to go down, down, down...to omg ...Tony Abbott of the LNP!!!!

So get over it and wait until it's Labor's turn again!

IF: ".....So get over it and wait until it's Labor's turn again!"

Won't happen IF, PPTSD is a long term nagging complaint and produces a like reaction, and honestly I do enjoy a daily Abbott dissin  mixed with ancient history, and then there is the Mopic / Cyclopic pink teeth gnashing !

LL: "the 457's tone has in mind are low paid unskilled workers for gina (and i managed 10/10 picking gina's statements from ayn rands yesterday)"

Let's examine that:
"low paid unskilled workers"  Actually the 457 scheme is called the 457 skilled worker visa programme. "The 457 skilled migration visa programme must be well-managed, providing rapid access to skilled workers not available in the Australian labour market, with strong compliance action to assure high standards of programme integrity,”

"low paid unskilled workers for gina" The ALP approach:
The Immigration Minister, Chris Bowen, and the Minister for Resources, Martin Ferguson, actually gave 457 approvals to Gina Rinehart's Roy Hill development in Western Australia

"Through cabinet, the government agreed last year on a policy to introduce Enterprise Migration Agreements, a category of 457 visas that would allow the importation of skilled labour for specific projects. This was because the Roy Hill project needed 1,700  workers  more than the 6,400 accounted for. However, with the mining boom downturn the Roy Hill manager, "Barry Fitzgerald, says the economy has slowed down and the project may no longer need to employ overseas workers under a Federal Government agreement set up last year."
