In the long run if it isn't "fixed" more will go under and it will be another bungle by successive governments that 

seem to be good at making wrong decisions and have no idea about what it takes out in the country,

What right do those who are charging for the water think where the water comes from. 

It is not their personal property - if it doesn't rain, charging excessive amounts for what little there is, is blatant theft.

Australia is the driest continent; there is not enough for everybody.    Of-course, nobody knows how long will the drought  last.   Australia has to re-think the food production; maybe move it closer to coast and use the recycled water from cities, and build more desalination plants, which will provide even more expensive water.  Maybe government should put stop to people bottling water and selling it to people in the city.

Farmers know that climate is changing, they should know that droughts are becoming more sever and longer lasting, and will nly get worse.  There is nothing that government can do in short term to stop that.  Yet they always blame somebody  else, just because they do not get their way; somehow nobody else deserves consideration.  And then vote for people who refuse to accept that farming in some places will not be possible in near future.  Or maybe that is the plan, get rid of all the small farmers and outsource food production to their  billionaire friends who buy up all the land cheap.
