Do you think that illegal entry into Australia should not be allowed?
How would you address that situation?

IMO the big advantage to Australia of the post WW11 immigration, British, European, Italian, Greeks and Jewish immigrants was that they assimilated and became part of the mainstream community.
Many came to work on the Snowy River Scheme which would not have been achieved without the immigrants.
No government handouts in those days. Many famiilies living at Villawood Immigration Centre until they got on their feet, which they did. Many didn't speak English but worked hard to learn.
We needed them and they needed a new beginning. These people helped make Australia what it is today......heaven on a stick.
Assimilation is the key word.

There were a lot of immigrants encouraged to come here to work in the steel mills ( in the Wollongong area for one) from the UK first then they Southern Europeans.. bit different from refugeess fleeing war torn countries etc?
Work was plentiful and not enough workers here.

Better question, where is this cue people seem to be jumping?
Why didn't the navy turn any boats back as promised?
Vowing to break the back of the people smugglers, Julia Gillard said the next 800 asylum seekers to arrive by boat risk being sent to Malaysia under the plan.
"I want to be very clear about this: under this arrangement if someone seeks to come to Australia they are at risk of going to Malaysia and going to the back of the queue," the Prime Minister warned.
There obviously is a queue, our former PM, Julia Gillard, would not have lied about that.
