The Problem of Linking Hijab to Oppression of Women

I think a lot of people ignore the oppression that Muslim women struggle under and they hail the face covering and body covering as a "choice" and women should be allowed to choose.
You have hit a lot of very salient points but sadly there is so much ignorance that the "so called feminists" choose to support this oppression.

No proof is offered that the person doing the explanation (Dalia Mogahed) is a female. Without proof anything that person says lacks authority.

Do you think that our girls have a real choice? They are brainwashed from the moment they start watching TV that they have to be "sexy". Then they are under peer pressure to "flaunt it". Have a good look at catalogue for clothes for preschoolers; it's a pedophiles' dream.
Obviously, I do not support when Muslim women are forced to wear covering they do not want to wear, but telling them that they are oppressed when they choose to wear hijab is just patronising, and frankly laughable especially when it comes from sexist misogynistic men. Again, making what ever Muslim women wear an issue takes away from the real issues and abuses against women in some parts of the world, including Middle East. But some people will just pick up anything that they can connect with Islam.

the thing is, a lot of women are so habituated by opression to covering themselves up, they wouldn't dream of dressing any other way. Their choice would be hijab because it gives them a sense of security and virtue.
They regard western women as slats.

I cover myself up by wearing clothes and have done so since infancy. This gives me a sense of security and virtue so does that make me one of the oppressed?
The veil of bigotry appears to be the clothing of choice by some.

No because that is your choice, not a requirement of religion and/or culture.

Appearances can be deceiving.

Really? My western culture, which is christian-based, dictates that I must wear clothing whilst out in public.
