exactly.
imagine being required to cover
your hair, neck, arms and legs not
only in church but everytime you're
outside of your home or having to
cover up when you answer your door.
That's my whole point, Icy. You can imagine it. specifically you can imagine how you would feel if you had to do it. that doesn't qualify you to project your feelings onto those who are doing it?
Do you know any Muslim women?
Have you ever asked them how they feel about wearing the hijab?
Because until you have you are not qualified to speak on their behalf.

Not quite a garment that hides the person though.
The oppression does not lie in the wearing of the garment, but in the reason it is required to be worn. The yarmulke is worn as sign of subservience, as is the hijab. Not all Jewish men feel obliged to wear it all the time just as not all Muslim wwomen feel obliged to wear the hijab; but some do.
Mr Elephant is not Jewish and would be most indignant if he was told he had to wear a skull cap at all times. I am not a Muslim and would feel indignant if I was told I had to wear a headscarf whenever I set foot outside the house.
If Mr Elephant was an orthodox Jew, he would accept the ruling without considring himself oppressed by it.
If I was a Muslim ,and believed wearing the hijab was a requirement of my faith, then I would accept without feeling oppressed by it.

not sure about that.
she doesn't have to completely cover
her hair and she is most probably showing
her ankles.

No, i do not defend any religion. I do not like religions. But i do defend people's right to be any religion they wish, and wear what ever they wish. And I will argue that just because some Christians committ crimes does not mean that all Christians are criminals. And i will argue with anybody who keeps telling woman who choose to wear hijab that they are opressed. Because all these silly arguments just take focus away from what is really seriously dangerous in the world, which is the complicated and escalating situation in the middle east. And the senseless terrorism around the world. Instead of looking at what is really happening most of the news stories are about the refugees, who are just the pawns in all this mess, and whipping up hatred against them and any Muslim.

You are not for real are you?All you ever do is defend islam. You claim to be atheist, hate Christianity but think islam is the greatest thing in the world.Tell that to the people being turned into sex slaves by islamic state.
Talk about jumping to conclusions!
1)Yes I am and atheist.
2) No, I have never claimed to hate Christianity, I spent most of my life as a Catholic and most of my friends are churchgoers.
3)) During most of my life as a Catholic I would never have dreamed of walking into my church without wearing a headcovering - and, surprise, surprise, it never made me feel the least little bit oppressed.
4) My personal opinion is that religion of any kind makes no logical sense; and I am perfectly wiling to defend that opinion against anyone who feels differently - Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jew or any other religion you can think of, but, unlike you, apparently, I am able to separate my beliefs from my prefudices and respect the right (within the law) of anyone to practice his or her religion,
5) You would be surprised at how many things I do that have no connection whatsoever with defending Islam.

Why did my picture of the Queen upset you - she is head of the church Of England - doesn't that make her one of those destined for the fiery pit?
