I can't imagine that a health professional would allow a dementia/alzheimers affected person to be tattooed, also, I doubt a parent could make a case for tattooing an under aged child.
Family members use a variety of aids when at big events, writing on the childs arm, w
Imagine the uproar? given the hysteria surrounding the containment fence used recently.
The lost and found child......... he seems as though he communicates with family, not sure from the media but I wonder why they can't find out what he ate/drank etc.............. most non verbal children use aids like PECS.

Any tracker would be useful, even a Dog type tracker, at least it would give you direction.
If he is out again, might be worth buying him a favourite jacket / beanie in Bright Yellow instead of dark blue !
Anyway, it was good that he was found.
The volunteers who go into the off track steep stuff that found the beanie were damn lucky to find it where it was.

I am not sure what you mean by "dog type tracker". But I am always surprised that tracking dogs are not brought in as soon as child is mising in the bush. There should be register of people with dogs trained to track; obedience clubs do train tracking dogs. If the dog could pick up trail before everything around got stomped out it would greatly help in searching in the right area.

Dog trackers are a collar that goes on thedog that emits a signal. The owner has a hand held device (use to look like a TV airial)
that when pointed in the direction of where the dog is gives a stronger signal. Use to track dogs when hunting with them as
we can cover miles and miles of ground.
You would or could of course take the device off the collar and just put in in the pocket.
I did see a few dogs in the TV footage, although not sure they were pure tracking dogs.

what is their range?

The police dogs seem to usually brought in few day into the search. But any dog with bit of training is better than just people. And sometimes even dog with no training whatsoever. Some years ago my daughter got a call from a friend who said that he is on our local beach and that he took an overdose, and is just calling to say good-bye. Now, our beach is good 10km long. I took my dog who has never had any training and went to the beach. Looked from the pier and saw nobody; it was middle of winter. So I just walked couple of km one way, and then couple of km the other way, and all of the sudden, my dog sniffed the air and raced up into the dunes, and there he was, almost totally covered in sand, behind small bush. Without the dog I do not think we would have found him.

What was interesting was where he was found as this was determined to be the least direction he went and or where he would be.
And as such the specialist volunteers - who do off track and into the steep areas etc weren't called in till the later part of the search.
I understand using formulas etc to work out the most likely place he'd be or direction he'd head but in view of the fact
that they were turning away people - and hadn't called the specialist off track people before then, it would be interesting
if they change how they search for people in the future.
