Along life's journey I have had a few part time/pocket money jobs.
I was an usherette who had to sshh a few patrons at times.
At interval, sold "peanuts.... chocolates .....icecream" from my tray. Instructed to say icecream last because that's what people always want....the last thing mentioned. And more money was made on Peter's buckets with their little wooden paddles.
That was the era that "God Save The Queen" was played prior to the movie starting
Had my own torch to assist latecomers to their seats.

About movie ushers.. my daughter said this week her friend has a p/t job at the movies. I asked, what does she do there, is she an usher? Daughter said ' I don't even know what an usher is'.
I was thinking of the person who you show your ticket to before you go into the theatre room your movie is showing in.
I did strawberry picking for a day as a youth. I didn't like it (or more so the cranky person I worked for).

Was one of your functions to shine that obtrusive flashlight on couples engaged in public displays of affection? I can remember getting spotlighted during "The War Lord".

Lurker, that part time job was when I was working full time. I was in the city anyway. My weekly train ticket price was nearly half of my weekly full time pay. I liked expensive clothes. The job helped pay for them.
When I married, I had little jobs like washing neighbour's windows. Cleaning at pubs and clubs, etc. They were all to make life a little easier and was additional company while hubby was away in the Defence.

"Paint your Wagon" was the last film I was an usherette at a picture theatre. Went on to be front-of-house at the Independent and Ensemble Theatres on the northside.
The flashlight shining on engaging couples was the role of our own War Lord - the head usher.

I used to go fruit picking in the summer holidays as a teenager. I also did babysitting and spent time in France and Switzerland as an "au pair". My best part time job, though - and the one that paid the best money - was as an art class model at TAFE.

What a life she ele. Were the art classes in a warm room during winter?
I forgot, I also worked at the plant nursery in my area as a teen. Could have been totally boring. But educationally useful in logistics training; and I got used to a "grumpy old boss" (who thought all teens were lazy good-for-nothings).
He actually gave me a beaut reference centred on dependability. And his "old grumpy ways" proved to be a cover for some serious problems he encountered during the war years.
