I just watched LIVING WITH THE ENEMY on SBS. The story about Ben the Aussie going to live with Lidia and Ahmed the muslims. Lidia is an Aussie and was raised Catholic and converted to Islam. Ahmed was born in Saudi Arabia.
What did I learn?
- Muslim women wont shake hands with a male person their not related to. (Very rude).
- When husband and wife muslims pray in their own house, the wife has to pray behind her husband. (Women are not treated as equals even in their own house).
- Christians are not allowed to visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Why? Because you have to be muslim to be allowed.
- Mosques can be built all over Australia but we can't build a Church in Saudi Arabia.
- The Quran tells muslims to kill people.
- In the mosque women are behind the curtain at the back. It's their own area. Why? Because the men have to be in a different section. Why? To give women privacy. This is the reason they cited. The real reason I believe is not to cause desire in the men.
- When they went shopping they visited a halal butcher to buy lamb shoulder. Ben wasn't consulted. What if he wanted pork chops?
- They went to Bondi to do an "Aussie thing called surfing". Lidia went swimming in her full Islamic clothing then when she came out of the water she placed a towel around her depicting the Australian flag.
Solved! Go to Solution.

I'm not worried about it. I'll eat anything. You seem to be very worried about it though.
But your whole argument is that halal = food that is sacrificed to another (non Catholic) God and therfore is a sin to eat.
But if the definition of sacrifice is that an animal is slaughtered as an offering, then how can chocolate (which is not an animal) be slaughtered in order for it to halal?
How can choclate be a sin to eat if it is labelled halal? .
My concern is that you are creating an argument when you don't seem to have a clear understanding of the meanings that you are basing your argument on.
I don't care if you eat chocolate or not. The same would apply to any halal product.
For example, an apple is halal. Do you eat apples?
I will explain it ONE final time and that's it. If you don't understand refer back to previous posts I will not explain this again.
Here we go:
Meaning of Sacrifice (OXFORD DICTIONARY)
(NOUN)
An act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to a deity: they offer sacrifices to the spirits [mass noun]: the ancient laws of animal sacrifice
The meaning of sacrifice above has 3 conditions.
(1) An act of slaughtering an animal
OR
(2) Person
OR
(3) SURRENDERING A POSSESSION AS AN OFFERING TO A DEITY.
Number (3) is not a slaughter it is simply surrendering a possession as an offering to a god (Deity means god). If a product is sworn as fit for purpose to a false god then it is off limits.
I hope I have made it clearer for you. Please don't ask me to explain it again as I wont do it. Read earlier posts if you still don't understand this or better yet read the 1st Commandment and 1 Corinthians Chapter 10. I have explained it over a dozen times already at least.
It doesn't matter if it is apples, lemons, chocolate, lasagna, pasta, coffee, tea etc... IF a false god is mentioned on the pack or if the company (supplier) secretly supports false gods I wont buy or eat it. I can't make it any more clear than this. If you don't understand please read over and over again until you understand. LOL.

i don't think you can buy pork in saudi arabia for money or love.
just like i can't buy horse meat here.
dear ufo,
it will take another 20 years and people women being harassed in their own street by groups of young muslim males to understand. i admit, i would probably be like them if i hadn't experienced it myself.
it will take a hundred "honour" killings (not happened yet but it will, like it is nothing special anymore in countries with a higher muslim population than australia) to wake up the people to reality.
it's useless trying to tell them they will have to experience it themselves. it's sad but that's the way it goes.

In Saudi Arabia the guy at the mosque said the population is 100% muslim and that's the way it has to be, he said! Really?

i know that most australians will think that i am a nutcase, spreading fear.
it's just that i have experienced it myself and i know of a muslim friend of my sis who is basically treated like a slave. (except that she is treated worse because a real slave has a monetary value while you are free to beat your wife to mush as long as the stick you use is no thicker than 1 inch....a well never mind).
.....................................................................
to everyone else:
call me a racist if you are ignorant enough to not know that islam is not a race.... *giggle*

...forgot to say:
you need a certain percentage of muslims before they become a problem. i think it's about 10% when they start causing problems and demanding sharia law to be introduced.
you are not near that and it also depends where they come from. arabs are the worst. they think everyone else (who is not arab) is an untermensch.
i don't get why that point of view is ok with lots of westerners. don't they know? don't they care?
how come that when white people despise other people for their skin colour (like say nazis) they are called racist, but when muslims kill gays and discriminate blacker people it's ok?

I am an Aussie woman and not Muslim. I do not shake hands with anyone, I think it's a man thing.............. JMO. I also don't like touching other people's hands, (you never know what they have been touching)
You can believe whatever you choose, does not make the Muslim's liars when they give their reasons for what they do.
Ben has a voice, he could have asked for pork chops but he didn't because he had better manners.(and probably didn't want them)
Mosques cannot be built just anywhere in Australia, it needs development approval from local council and can be challenged by other rate payers.

Dear ui...............
There are many people on CS who are better educated on many things, including social graces, who might take offence to your statement, if they thought it had any merit at all.

This show called LIVING WITH THE ENEMY is an experiment for an Aussie person to go live with Muslims. Ben the Aussie was a guest in their house, they gave him a bedroom and lived there as an experiment to see if integration is possible.
When Lidia and Ahmed went to buy meat for the BBQ so they could feed their guest and show him how Aussie they are the PURCHASE was done at an Islamic Butcher called Halal Butchers where they don't sell Aussie meat called PORK CHOPS. Ben was expected to eat lamb shoulder whether he liked it or not. Ben could have been offended. I know I would be.
In Australia it is AUSTRALIAN to shake someones hand when you meet them, male or female. This builds trust and friendship.
In Australia you can APPLY to a local council to build a mosque and people in the area can appeal. In Saudi Arabia you cannot build a Catholic Church as it was cited by the man at the mosque that in Saudi Arabia the population MUST be 100% muslim and that is how it HAS TO BE THAT WAY!, he said!
I personally cannot see how you could integreate people from the Muslim faith into Australia. I really do not think it is possible. They want to bring the world back to the 7th century under the laws of Allah and the Quran. I can't see how this is going to work.
