I just watched LIVING WITH THE ENEMY on SBS. The story about Ben the Aussie going to live with Lidia and Ahmed the muslims. Lidia is an Aussie and was raised Catholic and converted to Islam. Ahmed was born in Saudi Arabia.
What did I learn?
- Muslim women wont shake hands with a male person their not related to. (Very rude).
- When husband and wife muslims pray in their own house, the wife has to pray behind her husband. (Women are not treated as equals even in their own house).
- Christians are not allowed to visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Why? Because you have to be muslim to be allowed.
- Mosques can be built all over Australia but we can't build a Church in Saudi Arabia.
- The Quran tells muslims to kill people.
- In the mosque women are behind the curtain at the back. It's their own area. Why? Because the men have to be in a different section. Why? To give women privacy. This is the reason they cited. The real reason I believe is not to cause desire in the men.
- When they went shopping they visited a halal butcher to buy lamb shoulder. Ben wasn't consulted. What if he wanted pork chops?
- They went to Bondi to do an "Aussie thing called surfing". Lidia went swimming in her full Islamic clothing then when she came out of the water she placed a towel around her depicting the Australian flag.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Well if any of these aliens ever invite you to share a meal with them you're going to be in big trouble because it's a fair bet they sure as hell won't worship your Christian God.

worked as an altar boy?
served as an altar boy.
Were you taught as a child that Halal was forbidden as a Catholic?
As a child and until I left home and my local Parish, I questioned nothing I was taught.

1st Commandment of God does not allow Roman Catholics to honor/worship/legitimize false gods.
For this reason, it is against my religion to eat halal food. If you want to end up in hell go ahead and eat halal.
As a child I was taught to abide by the 10 Commandments of God.
How many times do I have to explain this?
I have had to say it at least 2 times before.

Explain it as much as you want but reading something that doesn't exist into the commandments doesn't make the argument any more logical.
Its a bit like saying that eating vegetables is idolising a false god because Buddhists are vegetarian.

And there, ladies and gentlemen, is the pointlessness of organised religion in a nutshell. The mis-interpretation of religious writings to form a view that other religions and their practices are bad and even something so benign as eating the same food that they would eat will send you to hell (see the fear there ? Well done Catholic Church !)

@i-need-a-martini wrote:Catholicism says no such thing about halal food. That is absurd.
The Bible does say very specifically however: “If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience” (1 Cor 10:27).
perfect example of how people pick and choose
passages from their holy books. the passage as
ufo pointed out continues -
But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it"
within all religions there are those who interpret their
books differently. there are liberal and conservative muslims
as there are liberal and conservative catholics and other christians.
it would be like telling muslims they should drink alcohol
because the koran doesnt forbid it. it would be like saying
their beliefs are absurd.

what's the world coming to?
The monks argue that Buddhists should not be forced to consume food that is prepared according to Islamic rites, saying it demonstrates the undue influence of Muslims in Sri Lanka.
