Living with the Enemy on SBS

I just watched LIVING WITH THE ENEMY on SBS.  The story about Ben the Aussie going to live with Lidia and Ahmed the muslims. Lidia is an Aussie and was raised Catholic and converted to Islam. Ahmed was born in Saudi Arabia.

What did I learn?

- Muslim women wont shake hands with a male person their not related to. (Very rude).

- When husband and wife muslims pray in their own house, the wife has to pray behind her husband. (Women are not treated as equals even in their own house).

- Christians are not allowed to visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Why? Because you have to be muslim to be allowed.

- Mosques can be built all over Australia but we can't build a Church in Saudi Arabia.

- The Quran tells muslims to kill people.

- In the mosque women are behind the curtain at the back. It's their own area. Why? Because the men have to be in a different section. Why? To give women privacy. This is the reason they cited. The real reason I believe is not to cause desire in the men.

- When they went shopping they visited a halal butcher to buy lamb shoulder. Ben wasn't consulted. What if he wanted pork chops?

- They went to Bondi to do an "Aussie thing called surfing". Lidia went swimming in her full Islamic clothing then when she came out of the water she placed a towel around her depicting the Australian flag.

Why is everyone allowed to practice their religion as they see fit apart from ufo? Many (most) religious people apply their faith in their own way rather than strictly what their bible tells them. I completely see ufo's point when it comes to eating halal meat, its had a parayer said over it to a god other than the one he worships. As far as other halal food, ufo is well within his rights to consider halal certification as a type of blessing or offering to another god and therefore make a choice not to eat that food.

What right does anyone have to ridicule him for that?

who is ridiculing ufo?

ridicule: the subjection of someone or something to contemptuous and dismissive language or behaviour

i stopped counting after 10 comments

which included some form of ridicule

towards ufo.

finger pointing could possibly get me

in trouble though so won't be doing that lol

Frustration may sometimes come across as something else...............

I was actually going to ask UFO if he was ridiculing me at one stage but decided that he wasn't.............. maybe.

HALAL means = "Foods that are permissible for muslims to eat or drink under Islamic Shariʻah"

Ahh. Incorrect.

The word HALAL directly translates to permissable or allowable. You can add as many extras to suit your argument if you want but it is rare in any language for a single word to mean 13 others in a single sentence.

both of you are correct it seems:

Halal is an Arabic word meaning lawful or permitted. In reference to food, it is the dietary standard, as prescribed in the Qur'an.

It doesn't matter if it is apples, lemons, chocolate, lasagna, pasta, coffee, tea etc... IF a false god is mentioned on the pack or if the company (supplier) secretly supports false gods I wont buy or eat it. I can't make it any more clear than this. If you don't understand please read over and over again until you understand. LOL.

Just so that I understand...

It would be OK to eat an item with a halal sticker as long as the word 'Allah' isnt included on that sticker? Because of course 'halal' does not mean 'false God'. It is simply a muslim way of saying "This tucker is A-OK to eat".

So seeing as no halal sticker mentions Allah, then all is well in the world again.

And as fruit and vege don't normally have any stickers, then they are also OK even if they are halal.

I understand now. So long as the halal label does not mention Allah, then I won't go to hell when I eat it!

Thanks for clearing that up.

lol how did you get that form what ufo said?

i think the confusion comes from your generalised

definition of halal.  when it comes to food - halal means -

as prescribed in the koran.

the reason for his objection is not that the

food is permissible but what makes it permissible.
