I just watched LIVING WITH THE ENEMY on SBS. The story about Ben the Aussie going to live with Lidia and Ahmed the muslims. Lidia is an Aussie and was raised Catholic and converted to Islam. Ahmed was born in Saudi Arabia.
What did I learn?
- Muslim women wont shake hands with a male person their not related to. (Very rude).
- When husband and wife muslims pray in their own house, the wife has to pray behind her husband. (Women are not treated as equals even in their own house).
- Christians are not allowed to visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Why? Because you have to be muslim to be allowed.
- Mosques can be built all over Australia but we can't build a Church in Saudi Arabia.
- The Quran tells muslims to kill people.
- In the mosque women are behind the curtain at the back. It's their own area. Why? Because the men have to be in a different section. Why? To give women privacy. This is the reason they cited. The real reason I believe is not to cause desire in the men.
- When they went shopping they visited a halal butcher to buy lamb shoulder. Ben wasn't consulted. What if he wanted pork chops?
- They went to Bondi to do an "Aussie thing called surfing". Lidia went swimming in her full Islamic clothing then when she came out of the water she placed a towel around her depicting the Australian flag.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Do you really think it is the fault of muslim men that some women do not shake hands?
In the same vein, whose fault is it when a Jewish woman is unable shake your hand? Would you blame Jewish men?
Or how about women having to cover their heads in many Catholic churches? Is this the fault of Catholic men?
Or how about Greek women who are not allowed in church during menstruation? Is this the fault of Greek men? Are they forcing women to stay at home?
(And thanks for welcoming me back. I am off to bed though. 'night!)

The Bible does say very specifically however: “If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience” (1 Cor 10:27).
Are you doubting my religion? The First Commandment is clear about this.
Your religion happens to be the religion I grew up in and I suspect (given my italian upbringing) it was much more indoctrined than yours lol.
And yes I am absolutely doubting your PERCEPTION of the first commandment.
But my passage seems perfectly clear, wouldn't you agree?

I am also of Italian heritage and have been Roman Catholic my whole life.
Remember this:
These are the 10 COMMANDMENTS.
Roman Catholics are NOT PERMITTED to honor other gods.

although really it is the patriarchal religions which are to blame for this marginalisation of 50% of the human race.

i-need-a-martini that passage you refer to here is the full text in italics:
Do All to the Glory of God
23“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. 24Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 25Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 26For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” 27If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience— 29I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else’s conscience? 30If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks?
31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.
The 1st Commandment says:
I, the Lord, am your God. You shall not have other gods besides me.
So myself as a Roman Catholic I only have one God and I do not honor other gods by buying or eating halal, kosher etc.

I don't think I would have eaten the meal after Ben had his hands into the meat.

I have been Roman Catholic all my life, Catholic girls school, member of various Catholic Churches all my life with a couple of years where I explored several other Religions.
Halal = permitted.
I lived on a farm for a large part of my life and was also a pork and beef producer. My parents and grandparents killed their own meat, which is still permitted today. They didn't stun the animals first.
Roman Catholics are allowed to eat Halal food. (who would say no to chocolate?)
