Why is a thread locked?? if a thread has violated CS policy, is not suitable to be commented on, but is still visible for all to read then what is the purpose of locking a thread?
This post is not discussing any thread in particular but is just a question that really needs to be addressed, why? because:
I'm sure there are many more arguments against this practice.

This is done rather then just removing a thread straight away to avoid confusing to Users as to why the thread has disappeared.
C&p cs policy which we all know is not what my thread topic is about.
I put 3 points up, comment on them & if you have any more reasons as to why it is nonsensical to lock a thread & then leave it visible if it is offensive or violates CS policy which rather defeats the policy of locking a thread in the 1st place.
That is not a copy paste of a policy if you had read it, the clues are there......... it was an answer to a personal query I had about a thread which was locked, one I was the op of. The thread is still here and was never removed, just locked.

So you don't care about the topic of this thread at all? then what on earth is the point of your posting here.
So you or the OP or any other posters can answer my question? I have no idea why people would be upset over a locked thread, how does it affect your/ their life?

- Locking a thread is a presumption that posters are infantile & can't control themselves.
I think that's pretty close to the truth about some posters...

True, but not the truth some people want to hear.

Are you the opening poster? If not, it a bit rich having ago at another poster in this thread, when you have not contributed a post yourself on the topic of this thread.

I was not having a go at you but if you couldn't care less about the topic then why bother even responding to it.
See, this is a reason why people get slapped or threads get locked, posters just have a go at someone for no good reason then it starts to get personal, others jump in then posters go missing because they defended themselves.
I have to agree with LL, a thing I thought would never happen but it is a gag on debate if the post is locked.
I must admit though, lately the BP'ers have gone quiet, have they been warned off? if so then the mods are doing a good job there.

The idea of moderators locking or removing threads based on "THEIR" own morales is just wrong !
I'm on my soapbox about this......surely when posters are discussing something like religion, where people have such differing views, ALL should be allowed to be discussed. The thread I'm thinking of was humourous, not inciting intolerance at all and for it to be locked/removed based on one persons morales (who wasn't even part of the discussion) smacks of living in a dictatorship.
steps off soapbox....still cranky though !

Well said, this is the type of response this thread needs. To lock a thread because it discusses any topic the mods feel is inappropriate is not right.
Hate speech, racial discrimination & every other topic should be discussed if a poster wants to. Inciting hate speech or racial discrimination or any other discrimination is unacceptable though.
Religion is discussed on here, or the lack of it, by one poster in particular & I've never seen those threads locked even though there is widely differing views held.
Maybe the devil made them do it
