sorry stawks, i was referring to the lyndt cafe seige.
there wasnt much anyone could do about this latest attack in london, again its impossible for police to stop nutters who take a motor vehicle and drive it into people. prolly couldnt do much even if there was a cop on the spot, in fact he or she might well be one of the victims.

They weren't just nutters, they were religious nutters.
Apparently they also took out long knives and slit a few throats, calling out to their god.
We will probably find some of them were born in Britain but I would be willing to lay bets their parents weren't.
London has got a big problem. Some surveys done have shown that up to 5% of British muslims support the work of the terrorists. They may not have done anything illegal themselves but they applaud the actions. That may not seem like many but it's 5 in every hundred, which means there are many thousands of potential converts to action. It's a worry.

how would you even do a 'survey' of people like that?
i'd love to know exactly how it was conducted.

I think the problem was the sharpshooters did not know if they had permission. They could have done it but they were awaiting orders.
That's a problem from the top leadership. We don't want cowboys who shoot willy nilly but at the same time, special squads who go into a siege situation should be given orders to take out the terrorist/terrorists if possible. They need to know they have permission to do so.
If I'm in a hostage situation I really hope they risk my life and try take out the attackers as soon as possible. If I knew that was the case, for sure, I'd be planning on doing whatever I could from the inside.
Not knowing would make me hesitate on doing anything. I never want to be one of those people taken hostage, then mowed down without a single finger lifted to help me, or me defending myself.
If I'm going to defend myself or another person, I'd like to know outside forces will take action at the same time. Even if it means my I might killed in doing so.
I'd prefer to be one of those killed in a rescue attempt, any day, no seconds thoughts about that.
Maybe a vote should be taken be the people. Is that how most people feel?
For me...100%, as fast as possible, take action. Terrorist would think twice knowing that taking hostages would useless. Of course this wouldn't make a difference in suicide missions. But in a suicide mission it wouldn't matter what I thought if I was a victim.

London Bridge attack: Donald Trump slams Mayor, promotes travel ban on Twitter

i guess trumps answer should similar attacks happen in the USA....
"We're under attack! Arm yourselves! Shoot first ask questions later! The Sky Is Falling....Help Help!"

Personally I don't understand the hesitation.
These people plan - with intent.
These people arm themselves - with intent.
These people hold others against their will - with intent.
These people do not think twice of killing or maiming - it is with intent.
Perhaps if a clear - a very clear - message of - attempt this and you will not come out alive under any circumstances (not all intend suicide).
No hesitation taken at all in defending ourselves & being defended by those trained to do so.
For those that intend suicide in this way - I hope they get what they deserve :

In the midst of so much fear and heartache, it was so uplifting to see the One Love concert went ahead - amazing strength & solidarity shown by everyone involved, the artists, the authorities and the concert goers. Huge kudos to Ariana Grande and the performers for being defiant and uniting and going ahead with the concert - an unbelievable display of courage and love. I was so scared for them. Really helps restore one's faith in humanity

Regarding the Lindt seige, not sure if anyone watched the 4 corners program on last two weeks. There were a lot of things that should have happened and hindsight is a wonderful thing as we all know. However one thing that I couldn't understand is that when one of the hostages rang the negotiators phone and it rang out, twice!!! The reason, it was in between shift changes. How can this happen? the mind boggles. The police admitted they should have gone in earlier, at the end of the day, the majority of those people saved themselves by escaping. Hope that they have learnt alot from that situation. Hope there isn't a next time to find out.
