Lost Dogs' home NYE fireworks

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/new-years-eve-goes-to-the-dogs-20160101-glxvz1.html

New Year's Eve is the busiest time of the year for the Lost Dog's Home.

Sixty-five dogs were admitted to the North Melbourne shelter with around half reunited with their families. At the Cranbourne shelter, only 14 of the 40 dogs admitted have been collected.

Lost Dog's Home general manager for animal welfare David Cunliffe said it will take several days to reunite most families.

"It's a very busy night for admissions of dogs ... and it is entirely due to the noise of the fireworks and I think people often being out of the house when it's happening."

You of all people have been around long enough

To know that the many unnecessary jurisdictions

Invented by councils , governments are there not

For the benefit of good citizens of the community,

But generally for the sole purpose of raising revenue.

I am glad that its illegal to light fireworks. Whats wrong with people, families, going to an organised event and watching it all together?

But even with these events, every year animals suffer. I wish people would put their animals inside for the night.

A couple of years ago, seeing a cowering, terrified dog too frightened to find his way home, just running in the darkness across a 4 lane highway is a sight I will never forget.

Also, one of my close friends lost one of his eyes when he was 16, at a local park, with lots of people lighting fireworks. Not just his sight, his eye. It was absolutely devastating- changed him and his life forever.

So when some start talking about stifling rules and regulations, as if it is only another political decision by a 'faceless bureaucrat' forgive me if I leave the room.

Re: Lost Dogs' home NYE fireworks

How many people get killed in car accidents.

Are they ever going to ban cars.

How many people get killed in planes, boats, sporting events, grand prix,

Skateboards, escalators

Is anyone ever going to ban any of those things?

How many millions got aids.?

Did they ban gays- apparently not.

Dont forget to shut the door

Aren't we just too precious that we all need to be

Wrapped in cotton wool and led around wearing blinkers

So the sun won't get in our eyes, or anything else.

Re: Lost Dogs' home NYE fireworks

You're right.

If a sudden, loud explosion, a couple of houses away reduces me to shaking, weeping wreck, then I should go away.

Just because my nerves are shot is no excuse for me being a killjoy.

Normal people should be allowed to have fun, and people like me should go away, somewhere, where we can't bother anyone, where we can't be an embarrassment.

Okay.

Done.

If you are refering to fireworks

Bothering you why don't you

Just say that in the first place instead

Of hiding behind a dog decoy

Re: Lost Dogs' home NYE fireworks

A big mistake people make when the dog becomes nervous and shaking at the sound of fireworks...they comfort the dog. In the dogs mind this just reinforces their fear. There is a snug fitting coat that is supposed ease a skittish dogs mind. Supposedly it makes them feel secure.

What about lightning...same thing. Usual if you go about your business as if nothing is happening you dog will pick up on that and get used to it. Of course you need to be this way from the time it's pup.

Re: Lost Dogs' home NYE fireworks

Definitely not good enough Jimmy.

We're just going to have to pass legislation

To ban lightning.

God will have to pay a hefty fine

Or go to jail

ecar, sending you hugs. Stigma , unfortunately, still happens in this day and age and is no reflection on you. We have our own "normal".
