Lost Dogs' home NYE fireworks

New Year's Eve is the busiest time of the year for the Lost Dog's Home.

Sixty-five dogs were admitted to the North Melbourne shelter with around half reunited with their families. At the Cranbourne shelter, only 14 of the 40 dogs admitted have been collected.

Lost Dog's Home general manager for animal welfare David Cunliffe said it will take several days to reunite most families.

"It's a very busy night for admissions of dogs ... and it is entirely due to the noise of the fireworks and I think people often being out of the house when it's happening."

Re: Lost Dogs' home NYE fireworks

My cats couldn't care less about loud noises and just continue on doing whatever they were doing, but, then, like your cat, mine are also indoors.

Yes that's right deb.

I believe its the same pub where flashers

Do their nudie runs

Thats pretty funny isnt it.

And the language that comes out of their mouths

I wouldnt want my dogs to hear

But I know a cat that is accustomed to that kind

Of fowl language and the stories her master spins

You wouldn't think butter would melt in her mouth.

How decieving life can be.

How precious we are in our glass houses

Wow that's some extraordinary cat, Oppie. Is she owned by a rooster?

In 'the olden days' when cats spent a lot of time outdoors and in fact were put outside every night, all the cats I've owned have not been bothered by fireworks.  I also remember a neighbour's dog that would be kept indoors on NYE....and he'd STILL be cowering under a bed or be hiding behind the lounge.

My old girl is the only dog that I have owned who has been afraid of fireworks etc.

Then both he and she must be  accomplished linguists Smiley LOL

One of my granddaughters reckons she can speak Cat - but I suspect the cat is secretly laughing at her.
