Lotteries in supermarkets?

Just saw this on the news. Lotteries may soon be able to be purchased in supermarkets. Leaving aside the rights and wrongs of gambling, what do you think?

I would think that as a society/community we would have learned the lesson of letting more and more things be sold in supermarkets. Butchers, bakeries, delis, independent petrol stations. Are we prepared to lose newsagents from our main streets as well?
Who will toss my paper onto my front lawn? What range of greeting cards will Woollies stock? How many specialist magazines will Coles have on their shelves?

Re: Lotteries in supermarkets?

Our Woolies doesnt have a sushi shop. In fact our town doesnt even have one.

We thought we were lucky to get a bakery in the latest reno. Its at the fruit and vege end though Smiley LOL

Now its cramped. One trolley wide near the eggs and salad veg.

My closest ww has just been completely renovated, no pizza, no coffee, no sushi and no plans to install them either

Re: Lotteries in supermarkets?

Apparently my OH overheard some visitors to town in ww yesterday complaining because we don't have self serve. Hell, we don't have a proper deli, bakery, seafood section etc etc. and the range of choice on the grocery shelves is pitiful!
I have supermarket envy whenever I drive an hour north or south LOL

(Still don't want lotteries in there though 😉 )

LOL that sounds like the little IGA in my town, little choice, HUGE prices and an eftpos machine that works when it feels like it lol

Re: Lotteries in supermarkets?

Nah, we've got a little IGA that's pretty good really.
I was talking about our woollies. It's hopeless. And they are now building a big new one in another nearby town (which a lot of people in that community don't want btw) so I don't think ours is going to improve anytime soon.

I really dislike woolworths but am somewhat dependant on them unfortunately.

My main shopping is done at Aldi, dont really like the other 2, only go there if I really have to get something that Aldi doesn't sell

Re: Lotteries in supermarkets?

Aldi - 1 hour north
Coles - 1 hour south
Semi-decent WW - 50 minutes north
Costco - 3 hours west

sigh

Independent newsagent - 5 minutes walk 🙂

Re: Lotteries in supermarkets?

Our new reno WW has more self serve checkouts (and they are busy) than staff manned checkouts I think. Not a bad thing as they only used to have a few manned checkouts open and the queues were extra long.

Even with the reno's it is still the same over priced, over ripe fruit & veges (over ripe because they are priced too high and no-one buys them). No competition in town.
