Re: Love from Rwanda, volcanoes national park.

I don't know how it feels to the gorillas, you are right.  What I do know though, is that it has stopped the gorillas being poached and killed for their hands and feet etc, and halted the slaughter of them.  It's a trade off that has saved their lives.

The gorillas are now protected and if they don't want to even be seen, they are left to their own devices and the visitors miss out, but they are told that before they go.  It is not permitted to annoy or approach the primates even by the official guides.

I wish it could be the same for many animals that humans destroy out of greed and savagery just because they can.

The real problem is honesty. Don’t trust what the tourist industry tells you, not here, not anywhere.

Re: Love from Rwanda, volcanoes national park.

Donna, I never trust what any tourist industry (or anyone else) spouts.  What I have been doing for a long time now, is keeping up with up to date conservation reports regarding the gorillas via university and on the ground, grass roots efforts with people who are actually there to keep the primates safe in the here and now ...   Smiley Happy

It isn't a question of "honesty", because nothing is ever as it seems, I know that from experience and I know what goes on behind the scenes in such countries and situations.  I've been there.

I'm not here to argue the point ... here's hoping the gorillas and other animals under great threat will not continue to be hunted to extinction.  I thank those who are dedicated to preserving that sanctuary in any way they can for as long as they can.
